I think Merrin is a good player - but not a star

Choc was brought here for more than onfield stuff .... and I think it is showing - I believe we are tougher this year - we might not be winning but we are putting in alot more games and have guys playing broken cos they need to

the young guys need to see an old war horse playing most the season through injury and still (mostly) putting his body on the line ..... I'm not sure Merrin would bring that same toughness attitude and example for others

watmough / Scott while ageing have I believe been signed not just for their leadership but for their defensive abilities. It's always easy to rate players on their attack but defence is just as important but is rarely noticed, except when there is a missed tackle for a try.

Watmough / Scott will ensure our defence is a lot better next year in addition to adding a half that can tackle and a fullback that knows how to position himself.

Good times ahead.

Well lets see, one is playing for a club that doesn't appear to offer players overs (or lets them leave to get their overs somewhere else) in Penrith and the other is a club that appears to offer every man and his dog more than he's worth in Parra. You'd also have to take into account the specific value that each player will be providing their individual club.

So yeah, I'd think they're on about the same in 2016.

If I was to guess both players 'on-cap' salary for 2016 I would say it would be around the $650k.

Penrith have offered massive overs to get their current squad. They would have offered a motza to get Peachey to their club. Soward was signed as a fairly high profile half that was still playing for the dragons at the time of his signing. Mansour was on the brink of Origin and Australia at the time of his last signing. Cartwright was one of the most sought after young forwards in the game.

So yeah I've got absolutely no doubts in my mind that Merrin would be on a few hundred thousand more than choc. The "money-ball" thing has been pushed by the media just certainly wouldn't be true.

You beat me to it C, was going to say, arguably the try saver of the year..

Against a considerably bigger man, still had the smarts to use his legs to hold the ball up. I understand the scepticism people have based on the age of some of these blokes we have signed but they are competitors that fight to the last....

He broke a bone because someone stomped him. What's his age got to do with the injury ?

Or are the facts in inconvenience to your agenda ?

Yes, I think the facts are rather an inconvenience. Could you please refrain from using them quite so often?

Agreed. I'd be surprised if we don't make the finals next year.

This might explain the injury toll- everyone trying to impress chic by playing injured - but they have to get injured first .

Choc was advised to get shoulder surgery last off season but didn't. Too busy getting Botox.

Lewis, Ennis and Chris Heighington brushed aside the notion Cronulla was the Dad's Army of the teams in the finals hunt. Ennis is 31, Lewis 32, Heighington 32, Gallen turned 34 on Friday, Jeff Robson is 33, Anthony Tupou 31 and Michael Gordon is 31 – a combined age of 224.

"Everyone has an opinion but you see a lot of old guys out there now that are probably playing the best football of their career and for me it's probably [become] a lot more enjoyable when you get older," Lewis said.

"It's like being a kid in the park again. When you make first grade it's all exciting but you get into the grind of it and try to get better but when you get a bit older you think, 'I've been here and done it, I just want to enjoy it'.

"You enjoy training, enjoy being in the sheds, the atmosphere, the warm-up, so for me the football has been a lot more enjoyable and fun as I've got older.

"I disagree with the theory that you get more injuries as you get older – it could happen to anyone – a 19-year-old could be tackled the wrong way and with a 130kg player on you anything could happen."

I know a few have concerns that Gordon / Scott / watmough are to old, but I think a few old warriors is what our side needs.
