i rate grevsmuhl highly. he started off the season very well, but he is only young and wasn't used to playing first grade all year, and maybe got a bit worn down as the season went on, but he finished the season pretty good. young players are often a bit inconsistent. he will definitely improve and can play prop or backrow. i am happy with him starting at lock, which is basically used as a 3rd prop, but he can also roam out wider when the team is attacking the try line

i am hoping mcqueen gets back to his state of origin form. he used to be a dangerous second rower, running out wide.

players like tyrrell and clark aren't going to be superstars but with the salary cap, not all the 17 will be superstars, so they will be either just in the team, or just out. they wouldn't be on much coin, so at their best they can be valuable. players like brown and maybe some young forwards will challenge them for their spots, especially brown who i think is a good impact player off the interchange. if brown fires up, he adds energy to the pack

if we don't sign farah, and mcinnes is the dummy half, then i think carter will just be used to give mcinnes a rest during the games, and maybe play a few mins in the backrow

It's hard to pass judgement on McQueen because he's being held on a tightish leash by Madge--that's why his game seems to have suffered.
He shouldn't be used in the Tyrrell,Clarke etc style--he needs more of a free role in attack--as you said;a wide-running,more creative forward who uses his speed in attack!
Similar to how JS should also be used!

Young forwards we should have for next year are:

Brock Gray
Zane Musgrove
Jack Gosiewski
Cheyne Whitelaw
Tulsa Saumamao
Angus Crichton (he will have to bulk up to have a shot at a bit of first grade next year)

I think your being very optimistic with some of them.I have big doubts Gosiewski,Gray and Saumamao can make it as 1st graders.Whitelaw needs more size,I think Clayton Williams is probably better most of them but is just too small for 1st grade. at the moment.

I reckon Brock Gray can make it.

I have serious doubts regarding Crichton. He is too small.

Anyway if we don't sign players for next season and we get injuries Madge will have to bring these young guys up like Musgrove and Brock.

I wouldnt hold out too much hope for many youngsters making it,the under 20s ran last and norths only scraped into 8th in an 11 team competition.I have the same worry with Crichton but he was injured for a fair bit of the season so we will have to see how he goes next year to get a better guide.I think Musgrove looks probably the best equipped physically to make it out of the young forwards.

i've been thinking about sutton's role in the team, and i think he should be used at lock, a bit like a second five eighth, who can pop up on both sides of the field when attacking the try line

1. inglis
2. johnston
3. walker
4. auva'a
5. oldfield/gray/goodwin
6. keary
7. reynolds
8. george burgess
9. mcinnes
10. tom burgess
11. mcqueen
12. grevsmuhl
13. sutton

14. carter/cody walker
15. clark/turner
16. tyrrell
17. brown

i still think we need another top prop

I heard that Grant's definitely staying. Someone on the Rabbitohs facebook group frames player's jerseys and said that he came in the other day and had a bit of smalltalk and he said he's staying. Take that as you will.

Also I agree alien i've been saying that for a few weeks now I think it'd work great.

I'd rather have one of the Burgii on the bench for impact than both starting. Also i'm not counting Oldfield just yet but I do know he's coming to Sydney so that should be enough evidence.

1. Greg Inglis (c)
2. Alex Johnston
3. Dylan Walker
4. Kirisome Auva'a
5. Aaron Gray
6. Luke Keary
7. Adam Reynolds
8. George Burgess
9. Cameron McInnes
10. Tim Grant
11. Chris Grevsmuhl
12. Chris McQueen
13. John Sutton

14. Paul Carter
15. Jason Clark
16. Nathan Brown
17. Tom Burgess

Honestly that's not a bad looking team. So long as everyone's playing well I think there's enough forward grunt and flair in the backs, and of course our halves who have proven to make big plays in big games. The only question mark is under the hooking role however there's a whole offseason for both genuine options to show what they have got.

yeah it's a good team on paper. if mcinnes doesn't work out then maybe keary will play dummy half, and cody walker five eighth. they might even have cody on the interchange, and when mcinnes has a rest, keary to dummy half and cody to five eighth, but i doubt madge would want to change the halves pairing during the game

I agree with that team. Sometimes Madge may choose to start Tom depending on who we are playing.

My 18th man would be Kyle Turner.

Against bigger packs I think our forwards may struggle.

I don't think we have enough depth in the back row R95. I rate Grevsmuhl and Sutto but I have question marks on the rest.

I still reckon we can make the top 8 next year but with no key player signings I can't see us making the top 4.

Crichton is 102 kgs & 187cms so a fairly rangy lad!

i'm looking forward to seeing some of these younger players in the nines along with cody walker and nicholls

Crichton played in the nines this year.George is out for 4 months with hip surgery.I really hope souths have a couple of forward signings lined up or we are in big trouble I think.

George will be able to rest up which could be a good thing actually.

If the hip surgery goes well he could be start full training in about late January.

He should be able to play a trial as well sometime next Feb.

I do agree we need to sign a couple of forwards. Taupau would be good. But I reckon we probably won't get him.

I reckon we should go after Jesse Sene Lefao. That's definitely what I would do.

if i had to guess, luke was on around $900,000, and stewart was on around $600,000 a year. some of the younger players probably got an increase, but there should be enough room under the cap for a big signing

Issac was on nowhere near that much.

The Warriors will probably pay Issac about $850,000.

I reckon Souths were paying Issac about $550,000, at the most $600,000.

GI is on about $900,000.
