I'm a Rugby League man through and through, but if Australian Rules has an advantage over our game it is that the umpires have less scope to influence the flow and outcome of the game. This finals series has been disappointing to me for that reason. Games overly influenced or interrupted by refs. Tonight was more the latter but we've had a couple of games when they really appeared to be trying to get a certain result. This does nothing for our game. The best games are those where the ref isn't noticed. This is why the arrogant prick Bill Harrigan was such a good referee. Penalty count 2-1 in his last Grand Final, compared to 11-7 last night.
