I suspect a few teams from Qld cup or NSW cup would do well. PNG, Newtown Jets, North Sydney Bears. They would prepare in advance for months as it would be close to the highlight of the season and a platform for great old clubs to be relevant again.
Basically punt Storm, Panthers and any other club that doesn't want to be there enough to send a good squad and give these clubs a go.
The only condition I would have on a state cup team participating is that they can't be affiliated with an NRL club at all. No feeder clubs.

There has to be something in the water in Melbourne. That Cows side should have done it easy.

They didn't even play Munster..

Eels will still win it without norman

First Hayne ruled out to play against the Panthers, and now Norman.

The tin foil hat brigade will have fun with this, although I still think Parra will have it over us as our younger blokes will be starting to feel the wearyness of playing against more experience foes.

A lot of the Eels were part of last years team too. Panthers might find their legs getting a little weary if they're not used to this.

Still, been a great effort regardless of what happens next.

Going to be real hard for the Cows to leave Ponga out of their side now even with him heading to Newcastle, he would be a weapon on the wing.

To me the popularity of short format tournaments like the nines and union sevens is questionable. no doubt it initially had success in Auckland when it was all shiny and new, but then when it's on every year people seem to lose interest very quickly and you get Eden Park 1/3 full at best. same goes for the union sevens, any time I have flicked passed it on tv at various locations in Europe, NZ, North America and Asia I see empty stadiums.

Maybe the NRL should have cities bid on 2 year contracts for the event so that it stays fresh.

Whats with these Kiwis kicking the try scorer on the ground? It happened in yesterday's match when an Aussie scored under the post and the Kiwi cow kicked her in the head after she scored.

Jillaroo No 15 (Maddie Studdon?) is a very fit looking young lady indeed (to be politically correct about it).

The Knights could do worse than signing up one of these girls to play in the halves this year.

Dragons too actually

Will be interesting to see what the attendance numbers are if they release that info. In touraments like this people never spend the entire time in their seats and organisers make sure there's a lot going on around the event too.

No doubt there's less people than previous years, but as long as it'profitable it will continue.

Would love to see it at Suncorp, but at this time of year the heat would kill everyone, spectators included.

Yea same as a Knights fan when I see guys like Latrell Mitchell, Boyd Cordner or Josh Jackson tearing it up I get annoyed that we let them slip through our fingers so I can only imagine how the cowboys fan feel about letting go of a guy with as much as Ponga.
