That's a fantastic sweeping generalisation. I don't think it's much chop but there have been far worse - Monday being the main one.

Neither of you can be proved right until we see if it is more disastrous than a Monday night. Do we have stats on the avg Monday next attendance in each year for past couple?

Membership is money in the bank. Whether that member shows up for the game, they couldnt give a shit.
(For clubs at modern stadia at least) there are plenty of benefits to have people attend at the ground. Merch, cuts of F&B sales etc.

Yes there is but the NRL prefers money in the bank than working hard to fill stadia and taking a potential hit elsewhere. They pretty much have admitted as much.

If you could get 30-40k through the gate each game you would earn more from that than the TV grant money, but that takes effort. Easier to take the Tv $'s and blow the fans who actually want cheer on their team.

I keep going back & forth on this Friday 6pm game, It will obviously have its problems in places like Sydney, but if people could get to games for a kick-off an hour later on a monday night, albeit in small numbers, we should expect at least as many on a Friday. Oddly, I think if anything is going to suffer in comparison to monday night, it will be ratings, particularly in qld during day light savings. Fox is obviously banking on big numbers for the second friday night game & are willing to sacrifice the earlier game somewhat. But it shouldn't have been a choice between lesser evils, the NRL needs to grow a pair and understand the networks should only be buying the right to broadcast the games the NRL schedule, not be told by networks what they are selling.

40 degrees in Newcastle tomorrow (35ish around kick off). That'll probably have a negative impact on the crowd. What a stinker

BS.Any sporting cpde's admin would want full stadiums. Both from a PR and marketing standpoint.

Code's also want to maximise their revenue, meaning it's a balancing act.Especially when you have ravenous clubs and players wanting big money, and grassroots crying out for it.They are also committed to playing games at country and interstate venues which can also affect crowds.
Then the need for decent stadiums.

The first opportunity for the code to really maximise crowds is 2018 ,when they control the scheduling. That will be the real test.
