I think it's a cultural thing in UK sport. If you look at EPL, Rugby, etc they all do it. For a while I was quite closely following St Helens and was visiting their forums. I remember being shocked at how disappointed they were when they had a charity jersey that was red with a white vee, and also when they had a black away jersey with a red vee (i.e. Same design as the home). But on masse they loved sky blue and navy designs for the away. So the clubs are just giving the fans what they want

Their away kits are 486% better than ours for one simple reason- they arnt White
While white is a far-too-common theme for alternate jerseys in the NRL, the fact that (generally speaking) it's white with the club's other colours still makes the kits somewhat recognisable as being that particular team (especially if the basic design is translated across from the main kit design), and for that reason alone, I have to disagree with you there. I wouldn't be at all happy if Newcastle turned up for an away game in, say, a yellow and pink jersey with some weird chevrons. The only thing tying it to the team would be the logos and sponsors.

I wouldn't be happy seeing Penrith in orange and white hoops, Souths in a sky-blue and purple modern-patterned jersey, or Nth Qld in a plain red jersey with black trim, ect. As a casual supporter of the ESL, the rare times I get to see any highlights or a game itself it takes me a few minutes to work out who's playing (if I don't have access to the scoreboard in the corner for whatever reason). One team will be relatively easy to pick, but the other? Nup, forget it at first glance.

How good does an off centre collar look cutting through the red v on the toddler's jersey? :fearful: $90 well spent on this quality piece of merch

If it was made in Australia i would get it... but its fricken pricey... wait till the end of year when the sales are on. That's what i do... bought a brand new 2015 toddlers jersey for my kid for $45

Even better when a club is changing suppliers.

At the end of 2015 i got our home and napier jerseys for less than half of what only the one would normally cost.

You are on the money with the totally different colours ,I do agree there is no reason why one team can be red and white and the away jersey is blue and green. However in our league there is absolutely no need for any team to have an all white jersey. They should just be a different take on the home jersey or an invert of colours- Broncos should be yellow roosters should be red, wests should be orange etc

I think Penrith have done quite well with the alternative. Just add white side panels and sleeves to the same jersey for a totally different look.

The NBL made this mistake and now has it right.

Not so long ago, it was mandatory to play in a white away uniform. It was following the NBA's lead which had every home team in white.

The result was, say it you were a Kings' member, you would go to every game and suffer visual boredom. Purple vs white. Purple vs white. Purple vs white. In Wollongong you'd see red vs white, red vs white every game.

So the NBL did an about turn and discouraged white. Now you have kings in gold, Hawks in black/red, NZ in sky blue, Cairns in Orange, Brisbane in maroon and Perth in black. Only 2 teams persist with white away. The NRL should encourage something similar

Wow, Catalans have bombed from three of the best looking jerseys (2016), to two that aren't as nearly as good looking. I'm very glad I managed to pick up two of their jerseys from this year. Aesthetically-wise, they'd have been much better off staying with the same jerseys. Oh well.

And I'm sure it's been asked / debated several times before, but what's the go with ESL teams having 'away' kits that are a completely different set of colours AND design to their main or 'home' kit? As much as we have a go at a lot of the NRL alternate kit designs, at least they're almost always the correct colours...

Simple buisness I'm a Souths fan there's not a chance I'm going to buy two almost identical shirts.
I'm also a wire fan I like both designs and might potentially get the pair.

Anyone know why the eels training jerseys are basically just all white with nothing on them except blades logo?
