Good growth from the Raiders. Looks like the powers that be down there have decided to get off their arse and try and bring the fans in.

Obviously the success of 2016 helps.

Not really, their members campaign is pretty much the same as it's been for the last 3-5 years, the sudden increase in members only really comes down to the bandwagon jumping back on now that they think the boys are a genuine shot at a premiership. It also helps that the Brumbies are slowly tearing themselves to pieces.

Canberrans are probably the most fair weathered supporters in the country, it's kind of sad actually.

theres a banwagon element to every sporting organisation there is , Canberrans aren't any worse then anyone else. The Brumbies are still quite succesful on the field being the best performing Australian side again in 2016
But they were still over shadowed by the Raiders last season because we've always had a bigger supporter base across the district & super rugby as a whole is on the nose.
The latent support for the Raiders has always been there , people have just been waiting for a consistently succesful team for the last 20 years ... the jury is out as to wether we have one yet

I think thats a little unfair. Of course there is a bandwagon efect but the board has allowed a culture of mediocrity foster at the club on field for decades.

The Raiders have been darn embarrassing to support at times what with player behaviour, nepotism and on field sucking.

Besides josh papalii the clod drinking and driving the players behaviour has improved under stick. Getting blokes like blake Austin in over toddles carney is good for a few members.

Having stuart who say what you will is a competitive bastard bests the loser family farm talk or furner could lose 30 matches in a row and still be employed

The club has improved its culture and is a lot more attractive to support. Winning does help a lot obviously

The style of footy helps a lot too. I remember in 2003 we were winning a lot but playing that grinding style of football under Matt Elliott and the crowds didn't seem to change much. Applies to the Brumbies too. Wheather you care for Rugby or not, the Brumbies were doing some awesome things on the field back in the late 90s/early 00s in front of big crowds, but now they're just your generic Rugby team that grinds away for the 3 pt penalty goal and nobody wants to watch that.

Freezing your arse off for 2 - 3 hours is a lot more appealing if you get to watch Leipana light it up.

Completely true, R.E. Brumbies, they had household names and really played some exciting rugby. But these days no characters and they are possibly one of the more boring teams to watch.

I'm hoping the signing of Hunt to the Dragons will get the fans a bit more excited for the future, and the membership should start to climb and not flat line like it has the past few years..

Fair dues to the people of Newcastle. The team is dogshit but membership has improved yoy. Imagine if they were ever to contend again. Far from the crowds in.late 80s and early 90s but clearly still the number one game in town.

Saw somewhere that raiders and tigers have improved the most from last year. Great work from both sets of fans.
