You might have been thinking of this semi final from the year before:

http://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/nrl-2006/semi-final/brisbane-vs-newcastle/summary.html

50-6 with a halftime score of 24-0.

Can't remember any injuries for Newcastle on that night - Joey even played, but Brisbane were on an absolute tear in the back end of 2006 - no one was going to beat them. Even Civ got a try that night.
Yep i think you're right. I remember Joey was playing.

Sorry to bump an old post, but the Knights were without Buderus, Simpson and Milton Thaiday. Obviously Buderus and Simpson were huge losses, but the loss of Thaiday caused them to reshuffle their spine again, bringing 19-year-old Mullen into the mix.

Not that it mattered to us Broncos fans, we were just happy to see the boys break their horrific post-season record which extended all the way back to 2002. It obviously gets over-shadowed by the Prelim and Grand Final, but that game doesn't receive as much attention as it should from the Broncos fanbase.

The 2007, 71-6 score was so cathartic from a Broncos fan point of view. At the start of the day, the Broncos were last on the ladder and quite frankly playing the worst brand of Rugby League I've seen from the club. Fans bitch about the Griffin years, but those early '07 games are right up there with '99 and back end of '03 as some of the worst in the club's history. As bad as the boys were, there was an air of confidence about the day and the Broncos produced an awesome display and really took it to the Knights late in the game.

It finally felt like the true defending premiers had emerged...then the Broncos came up against a Dragons side that had just signed Jamie Soward and were comfortably beaten. From memory, it was a case of deja vu where Lockyer got injured early in the first half and the Broncos had zilch in attack.
