In todays trial the Central Coast Centurians Harold Matts defeated the Sydney Roosters 7 tries to 2 (4 × 20 mins) and the Central Coast S.G.Ball also had a strong win over the Roosters at Morry Breen Oval.
The Central Coasts Matts have a very competitive squad despite eight players Bradman Best (Woy Woy), John Connolly (Ourimbah), Riley Meyn (Ourimbah), Ben Olson (Ourimbah), Jaron Purcell (Wyong), Ricky Blake (Wyong), Mallie J Townsend (Wyong) and Tom Stewart (Berkeley Vale) being with Newcastle and Keegan Turner (Ourimbah) with Manly.
The Centurians next trials are against South Sydney at Erskinville Oval on January 14 and then Western Sydney Academy at St Marys on January 28.

Agree with you Ourimbah Magpie

Centurions Harold Matthews cup team were very good & there were some standouts that impressed. I think the Centurions Harold Matthews Cup team will be very competitive.
Ashame the Coast have lost so many players to the knights.
But I guess its giving other kids an opportunity to play

As for the SG Ball game, the standard was very ordinary but I was told the Roosters didn't play a lot of there boys who are certain to make the squad, the only Roosters boys that played are the ones fighting for selection, I personally know 8 SG Ball Rooster players that didn't play today.

All NSWRL draws are expected next week from ISP down to Ball & Matts.

Can confirm the structure is *almost* identical to last season, with just SWSAS dropping out which means one less team in Matts.

The draw will be moving to a 2 year cycle (this being year one), with the idea being that each team plays the other teams once across 2017 and 2018. Due to the uneven draw there still might be occasions where a team plays another twice in the same season though.

9 rounds this year, obviously only a national final in Ball (vs Meninga) as QLD's Connell Cup has been shitcanned.

The Tarsha Gale 9's womens comp will run alongside Matts & Ball also - 9 teams (CAN CBY CRO ILL PAR PEN SOU WST). Strangely it's a top 8 finals format though lol

Good to hear. It's a shame they take so long to organise them though.

Then it'd work exactly like the SG Ball competition with one team getting a bye each week. Maybe they'd think of moving to a pool based system, say of 8 teams, playing 7 games within their pool + 1/2 from the other pool. Take the top 4 from each pool and have them contest the finals.

What isn't being dumped in Queensland lol. That's a shame as it was good for the 16's to get a national championship experience.

Given the size of the comp but the shortness of the schedule, pooling might not be such a bad idea.

But then you'd probably get screams of disapproval from the teams scheduled in the Pirates pool as they wear travel costs but those in the other pool don't. Plenty of logistics to suss out

I have heard the central coast centurions are no longer they have changed their name to the Central Coast Roosters. is this true. Would it be time for the CRL to off load the Central Coast side and sort out the bush footy, are they keeping people in jobs that are doing damage to the game to better themselves.
