Would definite be a surprise that's for sure, but how well you train means stuff all really. Apparently Brooks is the laziest trainer yet has been an automatic selection in the squad for 4 years straight

Have a feeling this 9s tournament is a little bit of a trial for some of the fringe 1st graders

Elijah Taylor on BSB this morning said Matt Eisenhuth has been the most impressive player for him over pre season and he'll be in the team for round 1.

I don't know much about him but he didn't stand out as a first grader to me in the limited nsw cup games I saw last year. He looks very tall and lanky. Apparently can play edge or in the middle so similar to Aloiai I guess
Eiso has never appeared to be anything special from the years ive been watching him play , altho he is related to Gal he unfortunately didnt get the same size gene. To be honest though he is definitely a workhorse and wouldnt be any worse then Lovett.

yeah did a bit of a search on him today and saw he is Gals cousin. certainly taller then him at 192cms but nowhere near as wide. played junior kangaroos with teddy, nofo and WT great Matt Groat. apparently had bad injuries form the age of 20-22 which hampered his career. now 24, not every kid is ready for first grade at 20, they get given up on way too early these days. seems he is working hard so if he gets a run will hopefully make the most of it.

Farah was on 900k last year. We are paying him 700k this year.

So the cap pressure isn't coming from Farah.

There's a rumour Elijah Taylor wants to go back to NZ at the end of the year.

Another rumour suggests Tedesco, Woods, Brooks and Moses are all upset that Mosese Suli can get a 1.3 million deal without never playing a game, but those 4 couldn't get contract upgrades done.

This club gets worse every f**king year.

For now I'm just gonna take those as a rumour and leave it at that.

Whenever you watch the boys on videos they seem like a happy group, very positive so we'll wait and see

I don't think that you can say the cap pressure isn't coming from Farah if we are paying him $700k this year. I think that would equate to Simona's contract easily. That is 10% of the total cap being paid to someone who isn't even here. I think we all know that the Robbie deal was going to screw us and it probably is.

The problem now though is how much are we paying other players and who are we going to retain. Those 4 players are our gun players but how much is a prop worth and how much are two halves that haven't really proven themselves so far worth.

I like Brooks but he can't be worth a tonne of money. Moses looks easily the better option of the two of them at this point but I don't think he is a proven consistent performer yet. Tedesco is worth big dollars.

as if they are going to care what anyone else is getting paid. the only concern for them will be their back pocket.

on eisenhuth didnt notice him much (to be fair didnt notice anyone apart from when they were making a horrible mistake, which was often) in game 1 apart from a good run and offload that the support players were too slow to take advantage of.

I know it is only nines football but gee this sort of footy should have been up Brooks alley. Sadly, he was totally ineffective today. I doubt the Tigers will throw money at him this time.

Brooks today showed me what is wrong with his game. I think he looked really good but he puts in a dud kick at a critical time.

I hope he gets it together because he looks good.

It was good to watch some footy though.

Brooks is totally useless.

No club wants this fraudster.

The problem we face is the likelihood we lose Moses & get stuck with this inept impostor.

Brooks in the last game in the 9's showed the sort of player he can be. He just needs to get some consistency in his game.

I agree that ET will have a mortgage on 13 jersey for as long as he plays for WT. In attack he is an instrumental part of our spine, similar way to Glenn Stewart was for Manly in their golden era and in defence he can be the difference between winning and losing the middle of the field.

However, the 2nd row continues to be a huge issue for us. Given the depth we have in front row I firmly believe Sue should move to second row. My justification for this:
- He has played there before and proved he can go 80 minutes
- He has size, aggression and footwork to be a genuine threat
- I think all his tries last year were from playing wider on the right edge
- Sue may one of our best front rowers, but the gain we get from strengthening the back row will outweigh the loss in the front row
- Allows for players like Felise to get more game time

My starting 17:

1. Tedesco
2. Nofo
3. Naiqama*
4. Idris
5. Simona
6. Moses
7. Brooks
8. Woods
9. Ballin
10. Ava
11. Lawrence
12. Sue
13. ET

14. Liddle
15. Grant
16. Felise
17. Aloai

*I agree that Naiqama's defence has been a huge liability, but his attacking combination with Moses and Nofa has been lethal. He has been training at right centre all off-season so moving him may be detrimental. I also really miss Simona at wing, partner him with Idris and we will see a deadly attacking combination

I was about to post the team I think we should run with and then I read this post and I think that this is spot on.

The only concern to me is Naiqama and even that whole right side defence. I'd be inclined to swap Idris and Naiqama just to get that side of the field right defensively.

We have some holes in our team though:-
  1. Hooker. I have no idea if Ballin or Liddle are up to it.
  2. Backrow. I think Sue in the backrow may fix the backrow up. Aloai will have to give Sue and Lawrence some time off the park and I hope he can match it defensively on the edge.
  3. Our edge defence. Who knows how this is going to do.
  4. Inconsistent halves
The positives to me are:-
  1. Prop rotation. We have 4 good props that should be able to match it with most teams.
  2. ET. I think that this guy gives our team some spark. He is skillful and tough.
  3. Halves. Potentially they are great.
  4. Tedesco
  5. Our outside backs including Tedesco. If those players fire we have a tonne of talent there. Our halves should have plenty of options.
I really hope we don't have another crappy season for some off the park reason. I expect the coach to pick the right players and the team to turn up trying to win.

Agree with all this. I'm super excited to see our attack after a full off season with ET working with the halves. Even today we saw him throwing crisp cut out passes, last year it was all short balls.

Sue (potentially) moving to the edge allows us to play a much stronger pack and bring Felisse in who is going to be a star.

Rod Griffin released to the dogs. It's rumoured our cap was over around $100k. Hopefully that's settled now and we keep Simona.

I don't think he was ever in contention barring a severe injury toll to our forwards anyway.

Only really hurts our reserves

But yes, hopefully enough to keep tim sim on board

What I took out of this signing was the fact that Warren McDonnell is head of recruitment at Canterbury. I must admit I haven't heard or read anything about him leaving us. Who is our head of recruitment now?
