Yes. That is poor. Especially with the player swaps during the off season. Must say that ground is difficult to assess a crowd figure! It seems fuller than what many counts state. Anyway we move on.

It's almost as if they're underreporting crowd numbers to avoid heavier restrictions from the booze police.

Oh, wait..
It was capacity. The club is under reporting crowds so the licensing sheriff doesn’t impose even harsher restrictions on the Sharks re security, police presence and liquor sales.

I really don't understand why melbourne gets an ANZAC Day game but Brisbane don't, the second biggest rugby league market in Australia. Especially considering melbourne already have an AFL game that draws most of the attention, while Brisbane have nothing.

Because it won't be on free to air and 9 want the Broncos on Friday as much as possible because of the revenue it gives them and their network.

I remember on an anzac Friday having a triple header. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, three huge crowds. Don’t see why they can’t do that every year. Lose the Thursday game this round and have the broncos hosting the rabbits

I think because the Storm pushed for this to be their "event" game and the fact that it falls on Wednesday this year, would dick around the rest of the draw.

I'm still amazed they didn't play the Storm/Broncos on Thursday night last round TBH.

That and Brisbane are going to draw good crowds anyway so why not boost other markets?

A bigger question is why they don't have an Anzac round with games in as many garrison cities as possible - Townsville, Newcastle, Canberra etc

Would have been better off killing Thursday night this Rd .. and having a Tuesday or Wednesday night game

Whilst some teams seem to have a hold on big games, there's no reason why others can't build an 'eve' game that can also build into something big. Two AFL teams have done that the last couple of years for ANZAC day and have built it to be a spectacle with good crowds. Being a Pub Holiday the next day there's no reason two NRL teams can't do the same and do an ANZAC eve game every year and build that up as a quality event. Need to take the opportunity to engage the public to generate increasing crowd participation.
