Shaun Johnson has today committed his future with the Vodafone Warriors until the end of the 2019 NRL season after signing a new two-year contract.

The 26-year-old said he was thrilled to settle his future with the club in what he regards as the most important contract of his career so far.

“This was a big contract for a lot of reasons and I’m excited to be able to lock it away and know I’ll be here for another two years,” he said.

“My belief in this club is massive and my belief that we can do something special here is bigger than ever with everything we have in place.

“I have always said in the past that I could never imagine myself being anywhere else but the Vodafone Warriors. I’m that kid who came up through the system and I love it here and what the club has done for me. There was more to think about this time but, in the end, it came down to winning.

“I could go to another club and another system but I realised winning there (at another club) wouldn’t mean as much as winning here. That’s what I want to be a part of here.”

Johnson’s two-year contract leaves him in line to extend his career to nine seasons with the Vodafone Warriors.

Having appeared in all eight games so far this season, he has now appeared 133 times for the club. He has also moved ahead of Stacey Jones’ club record of 674 points with his total now sitting at 717 points including 58 tries.

On Sunday, Johnson faces the club - the Sydney Roosters - he made his debut against in 2011.

Only two years shows that he's committed but not overly so.

He's left room to achieve something somewhere else.

Great news he's staying but.

As CR wrote in prior post, it's crucial he gets an effective halves partner.

He'll be on good coin, I'd say it's the club who stipulated the 2 year contract.

Good news tho..

Commonwealth Games next year in GC so means Mrs Johnson not necessarily committed to NZ netball after then either. It'll be a heck of a lot harder to keep him next time round - unless we become a hell of a lot more competitive in Sept/Oct that is!!

Great news, but as mentioned he badly needs a solid half and hooker else we'll only ever get 80% of his potential.

If you were able to choose Foran would be the one to keep. The improvement in the side with a tough, steady head has been significant.

Even though I'm not a huge fan, I'd kind of hoped we were chasing Josh Reynolds. He's has a good straight running game and kicks well along with a massive desire to win. A decent 6 for next year is important.

Stoked Shaun back on board though!!!

Moses mbye or Tyrone Roberts good fits?
Basically someone that straightens attack, reasonable kicking game, good game awareness and good D would do me.

What we need more than anything is a good communicator and organizer.
Apparently, according to those in the know, Johnson is very quiet on the field.

What about Trent Hodgkinson? Seems completely out of favor at Newcastle. Might complement Johnson quite well - good kicking game, straight running player.
He lacks any kind of dynamism of course, like Robson but better.

Him, Ata, and Lino could fight it out.

Excellent news for the stability of the club and hearing him speak was awesum

However

That mean him and RTS off contract at the same time so no doubt the circus will be in full swing 2 years from now

In particular regard to Johnson, I'd support him leaving if he's still not making finals footy with us in the next two years. He deserves finals action. What a waste if he only played it in his first season. That'd be almost unbelievable if we had a crystal ball back in '11.

Mannering's another who should be in the big time, but at least he had four years of it. Manu had good times too, three years of finals.

Thought he said he wanted Foran to sign to get him across the line?

Kearney will be at the end of his 3 years by then, so if we are showing instability or a rookie coach appointment, SJ has an easy out.

Would be playing with fire, his knee is absolutely shot, bone on bone which is really hampering him and i would say not far from retirement

Imagine what Cleary/Johnson could have been if the Warriors didn't bone Ivan

Clint Gutherson. Where does he fit into Para next year? French at fullback and Moses at 6. Pretty sure he's not off contract but if Parra need to release cap pressure?? In like a robbers dog I say

Very happy with this news.

I hope he stays a warrior (would take him in heartbeat) but should be a warrior.

Once Stacey has the reins..............Premiership will be yours and young Shaun's
