Because those are the rules. If that's not a knock on then half the knock ons from contact would not be knock ons.

In general play you see it all the time where the ball gets knocked out but goes backwards still get called a knock on.

I'd agree if the Warriors defender touched the ball. As it'd be a loose into the defender.

But in this instance the defender touched his arm/hand so he effectively threw it backwards.
