I get that he takes a "free" shot, but from the sideline?

Why wouldn't you pass it infield first? Surely a pass will beat the onrushing defense, and the shot will be about the same distance (considering not at an angle but further "back" along the field) and an easier target?

Seems like a "whatever" play from the Cowboys. Given up on seriously competing when it counts
