“All of us are just happy to play for Australia,'' Tedesco told Fairfax Media on Wednesday. "It doesn't matter if I get paid or not. To get that first cap under my belt for Australia, I'd play for free.”

Are the RLPA aware of this? I know they get far more money but the England football team donate any match fees they are entitled to to charity.

Thought it was $20k Tests, $30k Origin and $50k if the WC is won...

Here is a extract from NRL.COM on Nov 2015 when they announced rep player payments during the Salary Cap announcement

Representative Payments
  • Origin payments of $30,000 per game
  • Test Match payments of $20,000 per player
  • Four Nations payments of $50,000 (1st), $40,000 (2nd), $30,000 (3rd) matches
  • World Cup payments of $50,000 (1st), $40,000 (2nd), $30,000 (3rd) matches

While Australia makes enough revenue to pay its players $30k and $50k

The issue is who pays the opposition players ?

How much is ground rentals ?

How much is a Tier 1 / 2 test worth to the TV broadcasters ?

How much are general expenses plane flights / buses / accommodation / meals etc

Further to that, I also understand that the players can't touch their rep payments till after they retire. When you consider how many Tests and Origins the likes of Smith, Thurston have played, that's a handy lump sum with interest lol.. :open_mouth:

This is what I keep saying. Most players would jump at the chance to represent Australia and wouldn't care what they got paid. And if players like Smith or Thurston don't feel like playing for Australia after 50 games or so then there are a ton of players that would jump at the opportunity if they were rested, which has happened in the past.

Saying we won't play because we can't afford the $20k or $50k match fees or whatever is like saying I can't afford the $50 steak so I won't eat at all. It's among the most counter-productive things I've ever seen.

Well said!
