Oceania is more descriptive and just because your average league fan is as dense as a house brick doesn’t mean calling it pacific is any better. There’s a hell of a lot of nations that are in the pacific that won’t be included in this comp.
Yeh, but there are a bunch of nations in the world that arent part of the World Cup. I dont really see the problem...
Australia v Tonga "barely broken even" according to the Aussie press...and that's with the Aussie's taking a 75% pay cut..
Australia playing 3 tests against GB,England or NZ,with the Aussie's having their full $20k match fee, means the 3 tests will cos the ARLC over a $1m in match fees...that's why they think it's not commercially viable...they've priced themselves out
Isn't it origin that's $50k and tests $20k ?RLPA has agreed that Test players should get $50k per game
And BRL must foot wages of teams playing Australua eg NZ and Tonga
But the World Cup is open to them, that isn’t what is being discussed. What’s the problem with using a term that actually fits?
Which nations arent eligable?
Here's a question...is this Oceania cup going to be labeled the NRL Oceania cup or the APRLC Oceania cup ?
I'm curious about this myself. Is this an APRLC, RLIF or NRL event? You would assume one of the first two but you never know.
That article also says Cook Islands will take Australia's place in the Oceania Cup for 2020.
So that surely means none of the top 3 will be relegated.
Gary Carter is reporting Tonga up first in NZ and finishing in Port Moresby for the Lions...

This where the RLIF need to step in. Once the NRL tv contract is up for renewal the RLIF should be insisting that international rights are sold separately, preferably by the RLIF themselves. The same goes for England. Not sure what it is now but D Smith wanted to make the Kangaroos Jersey the pinnacle and pretty sure it used to be origin $30k and tests $40k.
How can a sold out Mt Smart stadium not at least break even? 30k tickets at an avg $35 plus corporates etc. = well over $1mill in revenue.
Maybe if they didnt give away the media rights to international RL and actually had a consistent and sellable product to TV then it would be more viable?
