It’s year 2 not 1 week

Yeh but never make changes after round 1...anything can happen.

He needs a kick up the arse & hopefully this week he gets it (from many angles)...but then he needs a chance to prove his doubters wrong.

So Moylan gets that pass through and we win the game, so I'm not too concerned about the overall performance for game 1. We competed for most pf the game and troubled the defense a few times, we still have great carries out of our quarter which is a good sign.

Holmes had the dropsies and will improve but I agree with Johns, Holmes must go back to wing with Dugan at the back. I thought Moyzaa did ok, The Chad was terrible.

Our best were Fifi, Boogs and Paulo for mine.

I agree with the first bit, it’s early days & we have the cattle...Just need them in the right paddock.

Did we really trouble the defence though?

Did we even make 1 clear line break?

The good news:

Defence. We played horribly with the ball and were still in it up to the whistle. Moyza, while a mixed bag in attack, really put in. Thought he was a bit of a shirker in the past, but appears no more.

The bench. With Ava, seggy and Paulo all doing well, holds us in good stead.

Goal kicking. Looks like chad did nothing else but practice this...

Does Duges really help out the attack that much though? I really don’t know what Barba would have done with Moyza and chads rubbish last night.

With moyza muscling up a bit in defence I think he’s a fullback, then we can add hodko to help steer the team around. He may get there, but I don’t think the Chad is up to handling 90% of this.

Moyza does add attack from the back.

When Lewis returns, i wouldnt mind seeing Gall coming off the bench still, i think it just changes our structure mid game when we seem to get a bit lost

Dugan would be a huge upgrade on Val back there but doesn't bring the passing game which is necessary for our game plan to work. Flanno still hasn't moved on from Barba's style and he has three options:
1. Bring Benny home
2. Put Moylan back there
3. Create a new game plan

Unfortunately point 3 should have been done in the off season when it would have been fairly obvious Val hasn't turned into a ball player.

It’s round 1 and it’s a loss, so no big deal.

What is a big deal is the reliance on 1 out plays. No support. No offloads.

More about the forwards roll on rather then backline movements, so yes we made good meters, we were hard to contain defensively, so was Nth Qld though. Don't expect the backline to click at this point anyway, do you?

I was at the pub watching with the sound turned down, I asked someone beside me twice if Dugan got ruled out in that first 20.

Guess not.

I thought the forwards were pretty good too.

Backs totally let them
Down.

Pippi Longstocking (0/10) - should kick is moral self into gear and give back the money. He is THE worst fullback in the NRL by a country mile. He excels in cowardice, lack of spatial orientation, lack of footy insight and lack of technique.

Feki (5/10) - best scapegoat in the team among fans. Didnt do much wrong but didnt do anything with frills and bows so gets lambasted.

Loots (6/10) - uncharacteristically over read in defence a couple times. I dont think he was comfortable with TPP inside. Was OK

Dugan (6/10) - welcome to the Sharks tradition of centres not getting the ball. If hes going to be centre he should play left where TPP and Graham will get him better ball. Any ball.

Katoa (4/10) - no defensive or offensive opportunities to stand out. Video ref shoild of been used when he scooted away. I dont reckon he knocked it on. Dont know if he grounded it either and didnt like the dive as he coild of stepped the cover. Still and all...

TPP (6/10) - Defensively better than BBQ ever was. Less penalties. Still looks lost. Went better than I ever give him credit for to be honest

Chad (7/10) - FMD, what do you quigs see when watching footy? Chad was solid. He wasn’t supported at all. Great kick for Duges try and made 2 other kicks off the side of the boot which caused all sorts of problems and could of led to tries. Long kicking is not long kicking. Needs technique training. Got the team to right places on the field but had nothing happening outside.

Fifita (8/10) - stop reading the press and listening to morons like Paul Quigs on NRL 360. It poisons your mind against him. Strip on Lowe wasnt even a strip. Lowe was too smart. Fifita was the only prop to take it through the line. No one backed him up. We only went forward when he was on the field.

Brailey (5/10) - he probably made 40 tackles, I dunno. He didnt do much else to be honest.

Prior (4/10) - he was Prior like. Tradesmanlike. Worked hard. Uninspiring

Graham (5/10) - wasnt in the game. Looked rusty as. Timing off in defence and offence. Did nothing for Loots/Feki. I’m interested in how he passed the HIA. Played “concussed” IMO

Capewell (3/10) - Awful. Didnt run any lines outside Chad which ruined the whole right side offensive structure. Went to wing and watched a ball go out whcih should of been his.

Bakuya (7/10) - Most consistent player in the side after Gallen. Close second to Feefs.

Seumanufagai (5/10) - Didnt do anything any other Latimore type back up prop would do.

Gallen (6/10) - not a benchie. Has no impact or x factor. Just came on and did the Gallen thing which was OK.

SoggySao (6/10) - didnt do the ring a ring a rosy thing which was a good omission from his contribution. Was crisper than Brailey out of dummy half. Provided a better running game than Brailey. Looks to of benefitted from an off season with the team. When he came on TPP looked better.

Sef Paulo (5/10) - not enough field minutes. Gets left on the chair too long then doesnt get into the game yet shows what he can/could do if he was settled in every time he goes on.

Team needs more weeks to gel but that lot looked like it had no structure in attack. Looked like they hadnt even trained as a team.

I am not a SoggySao fan but I suspect he will be a better fit for the current mob. I’m not a TPP fan but he looked way better with Soggy on. Past understanding? Whatever, that combo needs to be considered big picture wise. Brailey was bland.

Need a better option than Capewell when Old Man Lewie is out. Capewell single handedly stuffed up the right side. What people see as Chad being bad was because the side he works on didnt function at all. The missing link was Lewie and Capes cant do it. Should of used Sef.

PF has to find a fullback. Be lucky to make the 8 with Bozo the Clown playing there. I dont care about his “good” runs at 100 miles an hour. They are easy to compared to catching bombs, sacrificing hiw well being to get forward and down to loose balls or stand in the face of an oncoming attacked rather than timing his defence to make sure he comes from the side - always too late. His game last night was cowardly and I hate him even more than ever.

Taken defensive pressure away from both halves , by simply being Ben & being there. Thus allowing Chad the smae amount of time as Thurston had, to take his kicks & get better preparation in.

Nuh. He doesnt “get into the game” off the bench Stake. Gal’s a starter for sure.
