When casting my mind back to Smiths press conference last year where he broke down talking about how he had let his old man down we were watching a young man devastated by his actions. He looked shattered and emotionally broken.

Most would not have recovered from the embarrassment and shame. It has made him stronger. His return to the test arena has been inspirational. His efforts this series will be spoken about for decades. This is a good England side who would have comfortably won the series if not for him. They know it too. We have been witnessing a legend create sporting folklore. Everyone is watching from all cricketing nations and are universal in his praise. Im so happy for him.

Not only that it might’ve played to give him a mental refresh, hopefully adds some time to his career.

Head's LBW was umpires call but almost close to smashing leg anyway. More of an issue on Harris' being given first morning hitting above the knee roll, again not a howler but that to me isn't a great decision.

Every leftie should be told to review any LBW given against a right arm around the wicket bowler
Those 2 would have still been out - but they were both umpires call - so no review lost

did they show a replay of Head's LBW ? I reckon that was a pretty bad call for mine especially from around the wicket

and what else can you say about the Smudge, was good to see the poms applaud him when he got out, that was the best way to shut them up

Probably already mentioned, but they were saying last night that Smith is now the leading Test run scorer for 2019. And he gave everyone 7 months start.

In the end he got himself out too. Poms never looked likely.

Pretty amazing - surprising how few tests have been played overall though - he's not actually that disadvantaged...

Although I note he's only got the second highest average on the list... but seems to top the all important number of boundaries category!

I haven't seen a decent international captain since Clarke and McCullum retired. They are all so negative and afraid to lose with no real feel for the game. Kholi is easily the best in a poor bunch.

The umpiring has been abysmal for both sides, but the first thing you learn is when you bowl around the wicket to a leftie it almost takes out LBW out of the equation yet you have supposed the best in the umps in the world happy to just go bang.
