2019 coach

As things stands now, our coach for 2019 will be either Ciraldo or Cleary.

I understand the club aren't considering any of the other options thrown up.

Thats fine if they going down the Ciraldo path or waiting for Ivan but I still wouldn't mind the club doing a few interviews to just to get a few differing opinions on the clubs path forward.
You never know someone might impress and could be an option later down the track.

Why? Both have the same job and the same aim. It is a like for like comparision

It's not like for like comparison and I honestly don't think you believe that.

Seibold: Rookie coach in his first year with a team that missed the 8

Vs

Griffin: Experienced coach with a team that made the 8 two years in a row.

The expectations are worlds apart.

The aim is too win the comp for all teams though. We are talking before the comp even started so expectation has no part in it until atleast a few rounds in

Waiting for Cleary is nuts though, can’t just put a club on hold.

If Ciraldo is good enough to coach the team in 2019 he should be good enough in 2021.

If it is going to be a fill in coach we should only be looking at someone like Bennett or Maguire, but even then waiting for Cleary is crazy.

I am of the belief that IC will arrive at Penrith academy little lunch bag in hand, smiling, fresh faced, well rested for his 1st day back home in the off season.

Exactly. We need to plan for next year and beyond not put everything on hold just to get Ivan.
If Ciraldo is good enough ok get him in, if not don't waste the next 2 years with Ciraldo keeping the seat warm by waiting for someone.
We have a premiership window open now. Most times they only stay open 2-3 years. Gould has already said the 2020 cap will be quite tough. Theoretically our roster will be weaker by 2021 with a few departures. I do worry we could be blowing the next two years while waiting for Ivan. If that is the path the club is going down and Ivan doesn't get an early release.

I doubt Souths expected a prem. Improvement sure. He's a first year coach in a comp qith us, Storm, Cowboys, Broncos, Sharks. As far as looking from the off season he was never going to win it.

Bennet's decision not to get a proper 7 and instead buy Bird is baffling. I wouldn't count him out but based on some of some of his decisions and the form of his team I'm very unconvinced he's still got it.

I wouldn't count him out either or write him off but Bennett does do some strange things.
Constantly playing a forward at hooker when McCullough's out. Thaiday, Parker and McGuire in recent seasons.
He has been back at Brisbane for a few years now he should have recruited a decent back up Hooker instead of playing a forward there for the opening 20 minutes.

I think The Frog is talking about the Gould kiss of death. It gets denied, denied, denied and then it becomes true.

Moylan will see out his contract
Moylan will see out his contract
Moylan will see out his contract
Moylan released

Anthony Griffin will see out his contract
Anthony Griffin will see out his contract
Anthony Griffin will see out his contract
Griffin sacked.

No Trent Barrett is not coming to Penrith in 2019

Ah that would make sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain it. I get up at 2am gym then work all day. Information isn't processing like it should :joy:

I'm only guessing here, but maybe the board (who actually want Cleary) having spent a fortune getting rid of Hook, have given Gus a cap on what he can spend on a new coach, if it's not Cleary. Barrett would work for a fraction of the going rate, as would Ciraldo in order to get a foot in the door, so it might be between him and Ciraldo, unless the Cleary deal can be closed. Could be completely wrong of course.
