2019 coach

I don't hide the fact I think Ivan is an average coach but like re-signing Hook. We could of given him to say June 2016 then make a decision. Pretty much from the Ivan sacking on there has been some dumb calls

I understand where you're comming from.

Letting Ivan go was a bad move, it should have been done differently or better. Perhaps he should have been senf off to one of those stress relieving places for a couple of months, all expenses paid etc. (lol)

With Hook I have a feeling the club were perhaps backed into a corner by Hook meeting various KPI's (happened because of on field successes) and the club were left in a situation where they had to re-sign him for a longer ter,.

A bit like a work performance review. There were rumblings but because he met targets he had to be re-signed. NB: This is me foil hat brigade I have no idea whether that is fact or not.

I ask you this. How are we any better off than when Hook started?

Signing Griffin has been our biggest mistake you will get no argument from me, but for all of his faults he has done great things for our juniors and our teams fitness levels improved massively under him.

As a result our squad overall is a lot better than it was 2 years ago, we are still a few key pieces away from a premiership IMO, but we are closer then we were 2 years ago also.

Moylan was better then either fullback option we have this year.

Soward and Maloney cancel each other out.

Even this early on Cleary is better than Wallace

Seg or Wallace are better than the Hooker options right now

Whare, Mansour, DWZ about the same.

Blake is better than Hiku
Kikau better than Bryce

Latu and Peachey depth wise better than the current lot.

Rightly or wrongly we have locked most up long term. If we keep improving masterstroke if we struggle. How long do we leave before we go in another direction?

We have put a lot of eggs into one basket now. Like it or not, this is our team/coach/spine etc for a few years to come. We also have a half prospect the like we haven't seen since Freddy or Brandy.

I, myself, am pretty excited with our chances. At least with this set up we will be competitive, which always ticks my first box for the year.

After the announcement of Cleary (Ivan) today we should put it all behind us and get behind the team 100%. Interesting and hopefully exciting times ahead.

No reason we can't atleast match the last few years and make week 2 of the finals.

Was Freddy ever the youngest half in the comp? Cleary still has that title and Brandy had guys like Roycie and co to show him how to become a FG.

So there is still doubt given those reasons. For me it is simple as we can't keep letting guys go. How much better would our team look if we let Peachey and CHN actually see out their final years

Freddy was one of the youngest players to debut. One of his first touches in first grade was a right foot step and a 40 m run to the try line at Lidcombe Oval. I was there.

Peachy is the one that I am most worried about. He could be handy in our team. I think we will rely on May flling his vacancy.

Still - if things had worked out differently, we could have ended up with a Peachy/Maloney halves pairing and a rookie coach....

Cleary/Maloney under Cleary coaching is the best result for us. Just need to tie up Luiai to step into Maloneys shoes, or better still, use Ivans contacts to get Johnson here for a season or two and move on Maloney.

Hes easily our biggest loss. May not have been the best cover for injuries in some positions. But him being on the field at all was a threat

I don't want the club to go anywhere near Shawn Johnson for the money he'd want. No player in the game goes missing as often when it matters, just look at the game this year when we knocked them out

Oh come on, our club is in a position that many clubs would die to be in right now it's not like we are fighting to avoid spoon every year, if the coach fails so be it but we are a long way away from needing another overhaul.

I’m not suggesting an overhaul to the structures, I’m suggesting an overhaul to the personnel.

When Gus took over it wasn’t just a people problem, there were heaps of things wrong with the club. He’s addressed many of those to his credit.

At a certain point you need fresh eyes, I think we’re very close to that.

He has allowed us a good roster with strong juniors.

Did anyone take Bryce's money up? The reason I ask is. We 'had' to let Peachey and CHN go early. How bad cap wise would we be if he stayed?

A lot of Gus's good work is due to good luck then good management

He definitely has had some luck moving players on. I think these 5 year deals will catch up with him though.

I doubt very much that Cleary is our Coach in 5 years. I think he will be moved into a management/recruitment role before then with Ciraldo being groomed to take over.

This will lock Nathan up with us indefinitely. Don't kid yourselves, he is a very special player. Given time he will develop very nicely.

Our club is in a strong position. We are not reliant on recruitment now, just retention.

We could probably look at some options to replace Gould in the near future but I'm sure Gould and the club have some options worth looking into already.

Eventually one of these players will say stuff you. I am staying then it will throw a spanner in the works
Whare is probably the only risk here, but I assume we signed him pretty cheaply.

Guys like CHN, Peachey etc, they have moved on for bigger salaries and more opportunity.

Lets leave Cartwright and Moylan out of this conversation though. They were moved on for extra ordinary circumstances.

Personally I think there's not much else differently we can do, we've made the finals 3 years in a row with a poor coach, we probably have the best junior base in the comp besides Brisbane. Gould has set us up for long term sustained success, our team is very young and has plenty of upside still to achieve.

I think our recruitment strategies need improving but other than that I think the club has done a very good job, I wouldn't look for them to change anything drastically unless we start sliding down the ladder.

the 3 years straight is great but for me. How many guys are left from 2016? That is my concern. We get injuries x player comes in and steps up. We rush to get him a top 17 spot. Nothing wrong with keeping that player as depth until their deal runs out. That is why it feels like we aren't moving any further along

The only thing Moylan does better than both Edwards and DWZ is Pass.

Both of our current FBs are fair better than him in literally every other aspect of being a FB.

Moylan isn’t a great FB. He’s a great player, but he’s not fantastic at FB.

If we had of kept CHN, Peachy etc you would now be complaining because we lost Waqa Blake, Viliame Kikau or whoever else because we weren't able to resign due to salary cap restraints. Sometimes tough decisions have to be made for the better good and that is simply what happened with CHN & Peachy.

I expect Trent Merrin will shortly be next player released early. Again, like CHN & Peachy I don't want to see him go, particularly if there was a chance he could rediscover this 2016 form, but at the end of the day if it is for the better good then I accept it is business that has to be done.
