Why does everyone assume that Gus wants a puppet as a coach?

Everything that I’ve seen is that he is sick of having to step in. The Ivan was fired after he asked for Gus’s help and Hook just got the boot.

I don’t think he wants anything to do with the coaching of the club.

I agree. All we heard for years was that Griffin was a puppet. It now looks like he was the complete oposite. There a lot of myths about Gould that we're all buying into.

I think it will be Barrett. Gus wants a puppet as a coach so if he fails, he can be a scapegoat, but if he succeeds, Gus can bathe in the limelight. Strap yourselves in tight. Down the greasy pole we go...

Gus wants a coach that uses all the available resources and gets along with players and coaching staff. Yet somehow there are people who think it's a bad thing.

I suppose we eould have been better off staying in a constant rebuilding phase

Because it was hooks 3rd year of serving up the same restrictive bullshit. There had obviously been a lot of conversations in offseason with Griffin and how things would work moving forward, that was the whole premise for him getting the extension after we got rid of Moylan,

Gus backed him and nothing changed despite that support, he got angry. That would be my guess.

As things stands now, our coach for 2019 will be either Ciraldo or Cleary.

I understand the club aren't considering any of the other options thrown up.

Things at Manly must be absolutely awful if Barret is walking away early from his contract without another gig lined up.

Indeed. That's why I framed what I said as only a possibility and if they did allow it I could see it being based on the fact he isn't selling out for money but doing what he thinks is best for family reasons.

You can't argue we were fit to start the year. You don't think Gus would of asked the objectives from the trials when booking them? Some teams had 3 for this very reason

Yeah but what is the context around it? Did Griffin have to meet certain criteria as part of his extension? We don't know the details so it's not really fair to compare a 1st year coach with a 3rd year coach who just got a contract.

He was only disliked because he had boring game plans that held players back and were nowhere near hood dnough to match good teams or make it far in the finals.

If we were an actual premiership threat he would be loved.

yes but he was hired, Re-signed so must of been trusted going forward. Yet couldn't even run a trial game without Gus getting in the way. What hope does our next coach have if that is the case?

Back when he was willing to work with Gus.

Out Week 1 finals game against the Bulldogs was the sort of footy we could win a premiership with. Yet after playing thst style footy in 2016 it just vanished completely. Out came the boring footy where the game plan appeared to be what NOT to do.
