Tigers are disgraceful. Once again refusing to hold up their end of a contract. Sacking a poor guy with s family and not even paying him out.

Thank god we are able to give this poor man who just lost his job some stability for the next 5 years. As if that's not enough we are doing the same for his kid.

Yet some people would paint a good honest family club like ours as villains?

Was his 'resignation' at Manly before or after the O'Neill / Cleary 'chat'.
His notice expires in July, Hook was sacked on 6th Aug so could have been very close. Not sure where he'd have got the idea Panthers were interested though.

Gould has a crush on Barrett I wouldn't be surprised if he was eyeing him up to replace hook. When the board stepped in and said no we may lose Nathan lets get Ivan back.
Channel 7 said mid year we had lined up Barrett to replace hook around the time of the mid season review.

I can't really explain why Barrett would walk away from a job with out another one lined up.
Either way we will never know the truth.

Why does everybody say it is a five year deal? Originally it was three years from 2021, why wouldn't it now be three years from 2019? Makes sense to me!

If the Telegraph story is correct, we are f**king idiots.

In the wake of Ivan Cleary’s defection back to the club that sacked him three years ago, the Tigers will pocket a huge financial settlement, believed to be in the vicinity of $400,000, to let Cleary walk from the final two years of his contract.

It means Penrith will be outlaying the best part of $2 million on three coaches next year — their own, one they sacked and the other who is working at a rival club.

Penrith dumped Anthony Griffin in August, despite signing him to a two-year extension 12 months earlier, and have that payout on their books. It has been reported Cleary will earn close to $1 million a season.

All this for a coach that hasn't won anything and that has a career win percentage of 48%

Because it’s likely the original contract signed had specific dates, especially as to not be seen as inducing someone to break an existing contract. Cleary could hold the club to that.

But we should know exactly when it’s officially announced.

This is the upside. Gus has done some amazing things for the club in this stint back here but his last 2-3 years have been woefully incompetent

Even amongst the last 2 years, there have been glimpses of Gold. The work for drought relief being one which Gus promoted heavily, (I have a feeling it may have been his idea). His work in basically maintianing the 80 % local juniors and having these kids come in and suceed. To me that continues to be a highlight.

Finally the fact that he is able to attract quality players to the club Billy Kikua for me being a standout.

(disclosure) I do tend to look at live in a positive way.

It’s never an all bad or all good situation.

But the reality is there’s been an increasing amount of mistakes made over the last few years, something that wasn’t happening in his early tenure.

And some of the mistakes have been big ones.

Ultimately any organisation has to hold those who make the decisions accountable.

I don't hide the fact I think Ivan is an average coach but like re-signing Hook. We could of given him to say June 2016 then make a decision. Pretty much from the Ivan sacking on there has been some dumb calls

If Ivan Cleary doesn’t deliver the whole of the clubs management and board need a clean out, they’ll look like absolute muppets.

Oh come on, our club is in a position that many clubs would die to be in right now it's not like we are fighting to avoid spoon every year, if the coach fails so be it but we are a long way away from needing another overhaul.

He has allowed us a good roster with strong juniors.

Did anyone take Bryce's money up? The reason I ask is. We 'had' to let Peachey and CHN go early. How bad cap wise would we be if he stayed?

A lot of Gus's good work is due to good luck then good management

I ask you this. How are we any better off than when Hook started?
