Understand the work travel issues. However it's 6pm which is family friendly. So like the impressive 6pm Friday crowds in Newcastle (another regional centre) so is Canberra. The point being if Friday 6pm is to be used, better it be in regional type centre cities than Sydney.

It's really not that family friendly, can you imagine having give or take an hour to an hour and a half to rush home from work, rush to get everybody ready, rush to get out to the stadium, having to screw around with parking at the stadium, you're probably not going to get the chance to eat dinner beforehand which means you're going to have to pay for it, etc, etc.

If the weather is good then maybe 10-12k turn up, if the weather is bad, even if it's not that bad, then they'll be lucky to pull 8k...

Lol. My family and a mate with his two young girls attended the Friday 6pm game season opener in Newcastle last year. Granted people were still settling in their seats by 6pm but it achieved a crowd with plenty of young families and their 2nd biggest attendance of the season. Interestingly the Knights biggest home game attendance was on a Saturday at 5.30pm last year. From that, it looks as though twilight kick off times are preferable for younger families. *(based on those figures) Especially as opposed to any kick offs after 7pm which invites a different demographic altogether .

No. The Raiders had an 11.8K home average in 2018, and have just had a 25% drop in membership numbers based on them not reaching the finals in five of the last six seasons under Ricky Stuart. There certainly isn't going to be a large number of people coming up from Melbourne. 20K for a regular season game in Canberra hasn't happened in a long time.

Add in the fact that Canberra has a largely public service oriented workforce, and there's simply not enough time for people to get off work, travel all the way across the city to get the rest of their family, and then travel all the way back to Canberra stadium in time for a 6PM kickoff.

You have mentioned travel issues going to the 6pm game in Canberra? Sydney's travel congestion is very bad . If Canberra is the same as Sydney then it's a good point. However if travel congestion is not the same as Sydney then the point is moot.

It can be a bit of a hike from Tuggas to Bruce but no it's not as bad as Sydney.

It's not within walking distance of a major public transit hub, and a lot of the population live in satellite districts like Tuggeranong and Gungahlin making travelling by car the only suitable option for families. Even leaving work early on a Friday afternoon is still putting you right in the middle of peak hour traffic in both directions.

I've been a Raiders season ticket holder for 20 years now, I've seen the crowds come and go depending on how successful the Raiders are. Right now the Raiders are generating very low levels of interest among non-core fans because people don't care about them when they aren't winning. Stuart has delivered absolute mediocrity for all but about 10 or so consecutive weeks of his entire reign of error. Nobody gives a shit and it shows in last years home crowd numbers and the subsequent drop off of members.

I recall some very poor weather negatively affecting Raiders crowds last year!? That could be a factor? As from my point of view they are a very entertaining team to watch. Then again I'm positive in thought. Hope you are proved wrong and the fans turn out in force for what is on paper a very attractive match to go to :Melbourne Storm v Canberra Raiders at Canberra stadium 6pm!

6pm game makes sense. The prev arrangement was very inefficient, splitting TV audience for no reason. If you get rid of 6pm game, you could have it at 1pm Sat or 2pm Sunday. But if you want 2 games on Fri, has to be 6pm. If people cant get to games, well, tv is the paymaster so hard luck.

Bof those sound much better IMO. Pretty confident an extra game on Sunday would rate just as well without cutting the crowds by a few thousand.

I think a lunchtime/early arvo Sunday game would be great for both crowds and tv ratings, especially compared to 6pm Friday
