But it still exists. And it's still very influential . Both mediums are very important. Granted social media is growing however ignoring or undervaluing FTA tv is fraught with disaster. Plenty still watch it . Apparently Radio was on its way out when tv started ? So I think society has its own way of making a type of media valid.

Yes its a good media to create general awareness of the game as a whole, other mediums are much better for promoting individual games.

Rugby league is no charity. It requires the message to be as widespread as possible. Agreed that it's probably not using its 'esteemed' position in the Aussie sports market as effectively as it should. Part of that is utilising mainstream media in various platforms including social media .

I saw NRL Grand Final ads on TV last night, so they do use TV!

Yes. Noticed that in recent times. They definitely used TV adds for the Perth SOO match. Other tournaments such as the World Nines may need prompting and greater public awareness. And the various NRL games this season need added exposure as well. Letting neutrals know what's about is a good thing. Newcomers to the game can also be gained.

Gee you make it sound like TV advertising is non existent. I'm in Melbourne and still see plenty of ads for non Melbourne games as well as Storm games and promos for junior league. Such an alarmist!

I could be wrong here, but while the NRL may not be a charity, I'm fairly sure it (and the AFL) are non-profit organisations. So it's still on them to find cost-effective marketing methods.

Not pointing. There was considerable chatter about social media. I added (for balance )the missing mainstream elements of media publicity and advertising via tv, radio, signage and newspapers. So if you promoting a witch hunt over context you are not on the right purpose or track.
