Where are the Shute Shield crowds reported?

I've seen the union telecast on channel 7mate. The commentators often inform of the crowd number. Not sure what happens to official figures. Perhaps their TBA like most Waratah union crowd figures? Definitely seen and heard 10000 at Rat Park earlier this season .

Mate I saw a Gay Gordons match on 7 last year - there were about 300 people there - the attention of the kids was divided between the Bouncy Castle and an ad hoc game of touch on the hill. The game of touch was much more competitive and interesting than the union

Shouldn't you provide evidence to back yourself up?

Their was an article in the Daily Telegraph (about a month ago) boasting about the recent strength of the local Sydney union competition and its increasing attendances. It was an upbeat part of a piece informing of rugby union's poor performance in other facets of its competitions (Super and international failings).

Can we argue about Perth and Cronulla instead. Anything is better then Stallion and ‘RuGBy UnIoN is A THRreAT’

Don't think attacking Cronulla is healthy? And West Coast Pirates should be a worthy additional club in the NRL? If you note the Sydney union crowds in northern Sydney are bigger than some NRL crowds. Mind you weather and time of play should be factored in. But as far as crowds are concerned : it's a valid discourse. Don't particularly like pumping up union's tyres but they are achieving increased crowds in an area where Rugby-league is seen to be neglecting or abandoning (northern Sydney )

Can you please post a copy of the article?

I think you’ll find I won that argument convincingly and it has been put to bed.

Wow. You have not been paying attention to what's been happening in northern Sydney. Crowds of around 10000 have been attending local union matches . Manly v Warringah being a very recent and telltale example. Think guys like you would deny the Holocaust!
"Around 10,000".

A very quick google search uncovers the crowd for the match in May was 8,000: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-...by-s-crowd-crisis-castle-20190619-p51z9e.html

This is the upper end of what the local rugby comps can hope to attract, with most games coming in well under 5k or even under 3k.

Let's not even mention the massive slide we're seeing in Super Rugby crowds.

But by all means, keep blathering on with the same garbage.

Amazing! 8000 plus I suggest. And it's more than just once. And it's been repeated in recent years! So lets turn a blind eye and keep neglecting northern Sydney! Great thinking! Incredible.

No, you were wrong. You claimed "around 10,000" which is an outright lie.

One club rugby crowd of 8,000 per year isn't affecting rugby league adversely as much as you'd like to think it is. There's no doubt the Sea Eagles' home crowds are a worry - that's probably more to do with Brookvale's derelict facilities more than anything else - but their lowest this year is only a touch below that single big club rugby crowd - most are thousands ahead.

God, I feel like I have to shower now after putting that up, but hopefully people can just read it and we can then move on..

I honestly don't think it's going to threaten Rugby League that much, but it is a tragedy the game has seceded the North Shore to yawnion but they are just playing to their geographical and socio-economic base. Same as vicky kicky and their team. Imagine they moved from the SCG and played out in the far West instead. No one would go..

In Sydney, we should be more worried about 2 Sydney teams playing at Bankwest in front of less than 10,000. That is a problem..

That article, like Stallion's post, is full of opinion and speculation without much fact.

And it still remains the case that those 10-15k crowds, if that's what they are, are outliers. They're the equivalent of the NRL's 30-40k crowds, the NRL's sellout matches.

And - much like the union club crowds reaching 'giddying heights' of supposedly 10k - the crowd of 'less than 10,000' (which was 9807) was in the guts of the Origin period and represents the low point of the season, and is also an outlier.

Nobody would argue that club rugby has improved its standing with crowds, nobody would argue that Manly are going well when it comes to their home crowds at the moment, but its material impact on the NRL is minimal at best and there are far more important issues - scheduling and ticket prices most notably - that need addressing.

A great telltale article Coastbloke. The local union competition is harnessing local community rivalries. The article is factual and backs up what my posts have been trying to inform. Rugby union is gaining in areas where rugby league has reduced it's top flight presence. Namely northern Sydney!
