The old top 8 system was better, where losers like Melbourne didn't get undeserved home games.

Why should the Storm not get another home game after winning 20 of their 24 regular season games, compared to Parramatta's 14? and why should they be penalised for losing to a very good Raiders side while you thrashed a really pathetic Broncos side?

There were plenty of complaints back in 2009 when the 1st placed Dragons were knocked out in straight sets by the 6th placed Broncos at Suncorp in Week 2. That was one of the reasons the Mcintyre System was scrapped. Because there was not enough advantage for the top 4. It never happened, but it was even possible for 3rd or 4th place to be eliminated in Week 1, under that crappy system.

The Eels won in spectacular style yesterday but they've played great footy on many occasions at Bankwest this season. Away from home it's a different story. It's quite reasonable that as a 6th placed team, they need to do something extraordinary to make the GF. The task is to beat the Storm at AAMI Park and then beat the Roosters at The S.C.G.

You're not going to get gifted a GF place with home games. You need to able to win both home and away to be a premiership contender.

This weeks form? Please man Brisbane didn't even try!

If Parramatta think they'll have all the time in the world to do all those trick shots against Melbourne they'll be in for a shock!

Parramatta have won 5 games against top 8 teams all year (Not including week 1 of the finals)... I was looking at their draw FMD they got gifted a top 8 position, how easy was there draw!
Nice rant but what got lost in the excitement of Storm losing is that both Storm and Raiders played pretty average. On form, as I said, Roosters and Eels are looking much more likely.

After the season we had it would be a monumental failure to at least not make the prelim where you could be forgiven to losing to a red hot Roosters side. I just think the expectations we set as a club would not allow for a loss this week. We have to start well and not give Eels a sniff because we saw what can happen

Has a minor premier ever gone out in straight sets before? Surely not one as dominant as the storm have been this year

Yes. 2009. St George-Illawarra Dragons finished as minor premiers due to a better points differential than the Bulldogs. They lost in week 1 to Parramatta 25-12 and then were eliminated in week 2 by Brisbane 24-10.

Previous one to that was Canterbury in 1993. They finished as minor premiers dur to a better points differential than St George. They lost the major semi-final 27-12 to St George and then lost 23-16 in the Preliminary Final to Brisbane.
