Now that the dust has settled on the new NRL logo, what they did wasn't that drastic after all. Basically the jersey logo is white! The background colour is not part of the logo. So the different background colour options were put in place just to ensure the white logo stood out. Why didn't the NRL just put on a black background on the logo for every jersey and be done with it. It wouldn't have looked much different to what we have now (and saved us hundreds of posts on this thread!) plus it would have given the new logo a lot more exposure (and class)

Clubs were not given the option to tamper with the colour of the logo itself (unlike the A-League logo). The new NRL logo seems to only exist in black or white and even then the black wasn't permitted on jerseys.

I think most people are ok with the shield but the application of the text is what I find very poor, especially for teams like the roosters, tigers and nth qld where is sits across multiple colours.

The choice of a very light silver (it’s not white) also could have been better thought out as they also don’t appear to be changing this where teams are playing in away jerseys (except storms away I believe) or white shorts.

Hopefully they drop the text in future or incorporate it into the shield a bit better.

A few people have said this before but I genuinely think the NRL don't care about the text application - the aim being to make the shield itself so recongisable it won't matter what's written beneath it.

Agreed, the White-on-Black is the best look.

Everything else is substandard in comparison

Yep, i think the text is only for people who say "hey i have no idea what this symbol is. I should google it"

Outside of that, i think they dont want people to see it. So white on whatever background they have is perfect.

The only problemt really is that it makes the Comp logo sit a bit higher on the chest

For what it's worth, the A-League logo "club tampering" wasn't up to the clubs - it was given out by FFA in home and away versions and that was that. Clubs didn't get to choose, they just used existing colours.

As for why they didn't put it on a black background, I think the purpose was to not have the competition logo stand out like dogs balls, like the old one did being green on all kinds of colours. White on a club colour has been the go, I like it.
Why did cronulla not use the blue option? If the purpose was to not have dogs balls then the black logo with bright backgrounds like orange (tigers) , yellow (parra away) white (panthers away) should have also be made available. Or is dogs balls OK for some jerseys but not others?

I don't know that there was any rhyme or reason across the league tbh, clubs made a call based on what suited them ♂️

Probably because white on sky blue would be too hard to read (Raiders away design does it though), and a royal or navy blue shield doesn't match their colours. They just didn't think the jersey application out properly.

I was thinking the logo the Titans use for cronulla... I could have sworn I saw that one being used on a leaked photo before their jersey was released. But nonetheless, the black logo for the light backgrounds would look so good.

I did an orange mockup for the tigers and the Cronulla one is the best and less jersey. I don't like it..I actually prefer the way they have it with the black background. There is nothing wrong with the competition logo standing out.

Not only that it looks like there's no patch behind the shield itself.

Is that the first example of a black logo on a light background (not counting the text as the Storm away jersey has dark text)?
Yes, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is. So now we have broken new ground with the black nrl logo on jerseys.. there are so many other jerseys that could have benefitted from this e.g. Panthers away.
