You’re right, and if cowboys did match Newcastle’s offer they would have had to offload more players whilst Thurston was still playing (even though It was only one season). You couldn’t keep JT x 2 plus Morgan and Ponga on big contracts for even a season unfortunately

He took over a squad that was primed for a title and he did a good job in the short term to reverse some of the mental deficiencies to have the team playing to its potential, but as time goes on his limitations are more apparent. Maybe he just needs help with roster management and some ways to evolve the style of play.
