Top 5 in a 16 team comp was a great finals series format between 1988-1994 (probably the best era of RL ever too!). Nobody mediocre used to make finals back then. As a fan of a team who is still theoretically in the running but also pretty shit, I'd be ok with just letting the top 5 play off this year.

Except the Doggies.. for some reason they like spoiling other teams chances (Dragons vs Dogs the other year for example where all the Dragons had to do was beat em & get into the 8)..
