The treatment of Cody Walker by Brad Fittler has to border on conspiracy theory stuff. Watching game 1 it was very clear that Fittler had instructed Cook to channel all attach through Cleary despite the fact Cook and Walker play so well together at club level. Then he hooks Walker for not doing anything and makes him the scapegoat for Cleary's appalling attacking options and Cordener and Mitchell's appalling defence (lets be honest here - you dont pick five-eighths to defend that's the centre and second rowers job)

And that kills Cody's confidence (almost as though Fittler, the king chook, planned it that way) and insult is rubbed in the wound by not even acknowledging him as an option when it was him and not Cleary that got us back into the game and it was his substitute Wighton and not him that handed over the points that proved the difference.

In basketball one of the most telling statistics is +/- that shows the impact you have on the court. The same stat applied to the three halves used in game 1 is
Cleary minus 4
Wighton minus 6
Walker plus 8

All 14 of our points were scored with him on the field and 12 of their 18 were scored with him off the field. Yet Walker get's the blame.

Bennett will get his confidence back and we will be lucky to have him playing for us instead of in origin but its been a terrible scenario

For the first time in my life I will be hoping QLD win - I will be cheering on Cook and Murray but I cant support Fittler

I think he should have been sacked from the run on squad, but could be utilised off the bench as an X factor player when we are down 6 points with 3 minutes to go and panicking.

I don’t think there is any conspiracy, Fittler is a good coach and decent person.

Apparently there will be a good booze up during the week for bonding purposes.

I don't buy into the conspiracy but it's the worst kept secret that NSW are desperate for Nathan Cleary to become an elite half at Origin level.

I love the +/- stat though. I follow NHL a lot and that is a really telling stat.

Whatever the instructions given to Walker, they should have been to shovel the ball to Tedesco, Mitchell, Cordner on his side. The usually deadly Roosters left side was completely in effective. My understanding is that he was told to "play his natural game" which wouldn't have been much help to a rookie half in the cauldron.

His natural game is to wait and exploit weaknesses.

No surprise that didn't happen until the 70+ minutes in origin.

From what I remember as well NSW spent most of the 2nd half getting off their own line and when they did get near qld end it was intercept time.

Thing is, if Freddy wanted his 6 to play as a secondary half, then he may as well have played Maloney in game one.
Cody's selection and performance only highlights Cleary's current shortcomings imo and NSW are now trying to rectify that by bringing in Maloney to carry Cleary through.
Personally, i would've gone Maloney 7, Cody 6 for game two with Maloney being the dominant half.

Throughout origin history, X factor players have wreaked havoc on opposing states structures, shape and form.

Cody Walker has a touch of x factor.

And is complete omission is bad.

I guess you Souths boys now want qld to smash nsw.

Not for me. My reason for supporting NSW is supporting a Souths junior like Cam Murray in Origin.

Great player but I’d say a 12% X factor where Cody is capable of 38 X factor. Shock player capability.

Murray can’t win games on his own like that Cody.

Maloney is a frequent choker and Cleary is a gimp.

Timana tahu thought that the exclusion of Latrell and Cody might have been racially motivated somewhere but I can’t quite see that or accept that the selectors would listen to racists.

I think one of the great strengths of the game is in its diversity players are selected on merit first and not culture and stuff. And as result of that, every team has players from all over the world.

And players in the nrl, a lot marry outside of their own culture and religion and things. Some of the players are academics and some are unemployed. It’s a very mixed type of game.

I think timana was subject to racist taunts when he played, which was very dumb, weak and pissy of that person as well as irrational.

I would support timana 100% for calling out a dickhead, but I wonder if this call is a bit tenuous and ill thought out. Because people will scoff at timana. He means well, but I’m not sure that this is right.

Racists are not wanted in the game at all. The guy who taunted gi at Penrith, lucky to walk out of the ground standing.

Starting to feel pretty pumped for this now!! This is gonna be huge!! God, I would love for Queensland to really stick it up the Blues and go out and wrap up the series tonight but I feel like it won't be easy. NSW will be fired up after what has been said about the side during the week.

I'm predicted 12-8 to Queensland.

Gee, I can't wait!! Let's go!!
