You could also say that there is more interest from other clubs about Dufty playing fullback for them, then there was for Dugan to play fullback for them.
Dugans days at fullback are over you would think.as he is not that spindly kid from the Raiders that bounced around like a yoyo. At the Dragons he bulked up too much and is now used at fullback only as a stop gap for injury etc until they find a suitable replacement.. Sharks may move Moylan in the mean time and look to sign a half...?

There might be a smart coach out there who sees Dufty with great potential to play in the five-eighth position. This is where I believe he will end up long term. All he needs to do his improve his defensive skills. It is not out of step to have a 6 with lots of speed and a lighter frame.

So what about bulking Dufty up for the second off-season in a row and switching him and Widdop. Could work.

Na Poss..not yet. I'd like to see Dufty have and get a good crack at being a top class fullback as I think he can.

A great coach once told me when I was coaching in the Bush never ever ever weaken a spot to improve a spot especially in the halves

I agree that Milne was better than Lafai or Aitken, but others on here noted that his defence was pretty ordinary.

I assume that was his reading in defence I remember a game against the dogs where he monstered one of the Morris boys and they would run at him.

So what are you saying; Widdop would be a weaker fullback than Dufty or Dufty would be a weaker five-eighth than Widdop. I actually think Dufty could make a better go of it at five-eighth.

Not a bad idea possm- I've already posted somewhere else that I'd like to see Dufty and Field retained and groomed as our long-term halves ie for when Widdop has retired and Hunt has been found wanting and asked for a move to Hooker at another club.

Even if Dufty is everything the biggest Dufty fans think he is, this is still a discussion about swapping a current international and former five eighth of the year from his favoured position to accommodate an exciting young back with a nice little highlights package.

agree, its insanity to think of putting him to FB, when every man and his dog can see the potential of Dufty as a FB....us Saints fans are too hypercritical.....fact....its a good thing, but we must live in the real world too..... Fullback takes a few seasons to master, its like Prop....Not many come out and master it in thero first season, not even Slater did......Ponga did sure, but if he sticks around in league hell probably end up an immortal! so no comparing Dufter to Ponga please, we have a better all round team balance than just relying on ONe superstar thank god! usually those teams get nowhere, I think youll see young Dufty have a RIPPER 2019, learning from the mistakes of 2018, I bet hell put onj a little more weight so he doesnt get rag dolled when he takes a bomb on the full and I can see his defence ramping up also, hes not far off go easy on the lad hes a keeper!

Widdop is one of the best five-eigths in the NRL, and by extension, the world.

And Dufty has some of the best attacking skills in the game however, he also has very poor defensive skills, is reluctant to take a high ball under pressure, positions himself poorly at the back and because of his light frame, is reluctant to bring the ball upfield in the early tackles. Most of these skills/duties are essential to the job of an NRL fullback.

It is my opinion that Dufty's shortfalls cannot be rectified in the short term. So I'd say eithr move him on, keep him in ISP until he improves or as most on here would say, just put up with it even if it costs us games.

So, in your estimation Dufty can't tackle and is scared to take the line on. But you think he'd make a good 5/8. I think there could be a hole in your logic.

The St George Illawarra Dragons have named their Intrust Super Premiership and Jersey Flegg squads for the 2019 season.

Proving that once again that the Dragons are a development club, Jason Gillard, Jayden Morgan, Cooper Purcell, Juvilee Samiu and Matt Sheppard have made the transition from the Jersey Flegg into Mat Head's ISP squad for 2019.

Familiar faces such as Adam Clune, Ashley Nisbet, Pio Sokobalavu and Topiese Taufa remain in Head's ISP squad.

While the likes of Matthew Delbanco, Bailey Dickinson, Jiye Ellis, Luke Gale, Dante Lusio, Sam McCann, Tyler Moon, Matthew Nicholson, Shalom O'ofou, Shaun Sauni-Esau and Tyran Wishart remain in the Jersey Flegg squad from last year, the majority of the squad sees plenty of promotions from the St George and Illawarra Steelers' SG Ball squads.
