I think the concerns around proper pre-season trials and WCC are what's prevented it.
All 16 clubs are facing long-haul flights back east which essentially knock out a full day off recovery for their next matches. If they're playing well into Sunday, that flight is as late as Monday morning and they then only have Tue-Fri as recovery and training opportunities heading into Saturday trial matches on Feb 22.
I imagine it's the same reason the WC9's were Fri/Sat last week given seven of the teams involved (AUS & NZ Women, AUS, NZ, France, Tonga and England) are playing this Fri/Sat
Play it the weekend before then. The NRL continue finding ways to stuff things up. They're aussies, they can handle the heat
