Resetting ladder option set to be ruled out: https://www.nrl.com/news/2020/04/07/resetting-ladder-option-set-to-be-ruled-out/

Well thank god for that!

On another note, am I the only one who's really not a fan of the potential conference system? I mean, if it's the only safe way we can get the game back then I guess we have to do it but I just don't like the idea because in my opinion, it makes the competition unfair. For example, the Sydney conference is going to be a lot stronger and a lot harder than the other one with the likes of the Titans, the Warriors and the Dragons in it (with no disrespect to them, I'm just being realistic). Of course, those teams form could improve but I'm just talking about as things stand currently. I just think it'd be a bit unfair on us and the other Sydney teams.

The NRL needs to find a way to structure the Season safely where everyone plays everyone once. If that means we spend seven weeks in the conference system (which may give time for the effects of the virus to slow down) before switching over to play the other teams after that seven weeks when it may be safer/easier to travel then so be it. That would be a lot better then sticking in the conferences for the rest of the Season.

Dragons aren't a Sydney club? Learn sonething new everyday!

I don't believe A Sydney Conference would be stronger. Melbourne and Canberra are more intimidating than Easts and Manly. Add the dangerous Brisbane and Newcastle into the mix and you'd be pretty close to a credible top 6.

I actually believe the Sydney conference would be fairly open to 5 or 6 of the sides with no obvious standout beyond Manly who i would currently project as the 3rd best team in the comp.

What a load of shit.NRL you are an embaressment,
If playing NRL is a priority to Wayne Pearce, Brad Fittler and Vilantis whatever his name is, we have got some serious problems.Thousands of people are dying world wide and NRLs only interest is in restarting the game.
I know we are all starved for sport, however I dont think its the time to plan ahead at this early stage.
NRL get your priorities right, who cares if you are not getting paid your tv royalties from Fox/9.
You should have had a better financial plan for all the tv rights you received in the previous years.
Too many fingers in the pot.

NRL welfare a must in bubble lockdown: https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/nrl-we...lockdown/1ee264b9-157d-46d6-9527-e200174c3892

Also, from Sporting News, Gordy has said exactly what I said earlier today,

Broncos legend Gorden Tallis believes proposed conference system would be unbalanced

Former Broncos and Australia second-rower Gorden Tallis believes that the proposed conference system would create an unbalanced schedule for teams.

As the NRL explores every available option to resume the competition, the latest innovation that has been proposed would see them the schedule split into a two-conference system over a 14-week season.

This would involve the eight Sydney-based teams playing out of Homebush whilst the St George Illawarra Dragons and the rest of the teams located outside of Sydney would be quarantined in the sunshine state.

Tallis questioned this proposal, believing that there would be one conference that would be significantly worse than the other, causing an imbalance.

He believed that the NRL needs to implement a system that would see every club face off against each other.

“I don’t believe in two conferences. I really don’t,” he told Fox League Live.

“If you’re a Queenslander, and you’re going to go to Sydney and play in front of an empty stadium, then you’ve got to go.

“Everybody’s got to play each other once, but there can’t be two conferences.

“I don’t think it’s fair on some teams that would be in the conferences, because one conference will be weaker than the other.

"There’s no doubt about that.”

Tallis also rejected the notion that State of Origin should re-commence the season when the sport is given the green light to return, believing that the long-layoff would detract from the physical nature and standard of the contest.

“What makes Origin so special is the standard that it’s played at, what the players put their body through,” he said.

“And it’s the best product that we can get on our television set.

"So you don’t want to dilute that by not having everybody fit, fighting and raring to go.”

Blues captain Boyd Cordner was amongst the supporters of this idea, believing that it would help revitalise support for the sport.

“When the fans are allowed to return and watch, if they're coming back into an Origin series and buy tickets and that’s the first thing that they go and watch, I think that will be an outstanding thing for the game,” he said.

They are a Sydney club obviously but it's been suggested that if the conference system goes ahead, they'll be in the non-Sydney conference.
