I can see Canterbury offering TPJ a decent salary. More than I'd want to see Souths offer him.
Agree. It's unfortunate that Amone got hurt because he was looking like that player i thought.
Like you mentioned earlier, Knight with an extra 5kg of muscle could be a weapon. At the moment that isn't sustainable as he's currently required to play 40+ minutes.

The introduction of Arrow to the middle rotation gives Souths an option of Tom/Tatola splitting 80 minutes at prop with Arrow playing 50-60 as the other prop and Murray playing similar minutes at lock. Suddenly that leaves less minutes to be played by the power options from the bench in Knight/Amone/Mago. Less minutes means there will be less emphasis on fitness for those players and more opportunity to be aggressive.
As much as i like the effort that Nicholls gives week in, week out, bringing Arrow into the side will probably push him out in favour of someone who can bring more energy to a game.

RL is evolving beyond the power forward game of the 2010's but there is still room for a big boy in the middle if you can put some big minute workaholics around him i believe. That's where Arrow and Murray will become important. It isn't about the individual player, it's the knock on effect that their minutes can create.

Youre right. It will have a knock on effect.
Murray will hopefully be fresher during a game making less tackles,
could potentially prolong his career too. I should have mentioned earlier murray is our link man, similar to Radley for the Rorters. It was him who through the lass to Mitchell in origin which secured the win (yewww) So he is important to our attack as much as he is our defence. Arrow like you say will boost our side either way, even though he isn't a 'bend your line' type of player as he is an origin quality player.
Will suck around origin time though, when we will potentially have our middle defence in cook, arrow & Murray out.

You offer an exciting perspective regarding cook though, how good would that be if he was made to make less tackles per game thanks to arrows arrival which HOPEFULLY will strengthen his already godly running game...
Too often though i find myself shouting at the television... 'support him!! Support him!!

Yeah it's pretty f###ed up, I blame Bennett for this, he was never enamoured with AJ, he's the one who fell in love with a dude who is always broken down (Burns), and brought in another who had red flags all over him because of his D (Roberts). And IMO neither should have been signed, and neither would have been good enough to make a premiership side

Yep. Dont know the go with burns but Roberts was origin quality a couple years ago.. shame really.

I for one am pretty excited about Arrow. Our pack has been doing really well this year but in order to to to the next level, we need him.

In other news, this makes me sad,

'It’s heartbreaking' - Johnston resigned to leaving Souths as rival clubs circle: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/it...hs-as-rival-clubs-circle-20200812-p55l2i.html

Yeah im excited at our prospects for next year actually, with all the development of our younger forwards in mago, koala, amone, sele...
We already have Tatola, Burgess and bringing in Arrow along with Cook and Murray we have a great forward pack youd have say. Good experience in Arrow, Cook, Burgess as well as a good mixture of youth and hard running props in Tatola, Amone, Mago, Sele.
And we have S'ua who has had a great year.. looking good for the future. I just wish we would resign AJ!

In another note, I'm glad we didn't re sign Doeuihi.
His game looks really 1 dimensional and doesn't offer alot of creativity. Some creativity in patches but not alot as a whole. Hes safe under the high ball (98% of the time) he runs hard on the kick returns but thats about it.
Would much rather Mitchell (or even AJ) in the #1 jersey.

I rate Burns when he's fit, have done since i watched him play Holden Cup for Penrith. Has an ability to break tackles that not many backs at Souths do. Unfortunately his career is looking like it's going to be held back by injury.

Yeah ok, hope he has a good run with the injuries and stays fit for the next couple of years and kills it.
An abundance of options in the centres when everyone is fit

Roberts is totally good enough to make a premiership side, however that doesn’t mean he ever will. He’s one of those players with all the talent but who will never put it all together sadly.

Im thinking weve done a deal with the fox, which is why Aj is being cut loose, we also have a spare FB in Allen, we can only wait and see, if i was laying a bet id say its a even money bet Aj will end up at the storm.
On the other wing i always thought paulo was alot better than he is showing, other debutants eg stains at penrith seem to be scoring trys while paulo is dropping chances, still he may just need time,at least he is a big boy.

Rabbitohs ready to be coaxed back to new $700m Sydney Football Stadium

After 15 years playing in Sydney’s west, the Rabbitohs could be heading home.

South Sydney powerbrokers are expected to be encouraged by the State Government and NRL to play home games at the newly built $700m Sydney Football Stadium – formerly known as Allianz Stadium – in Moore Park.

It wouldn’t though mean Souths would completely walk away from ANZ Stadium, the club’s home ground since 2006.

A recent online members survey undertaken by the club is understood to show a leaning toward playing at the new SFS, situated just 3.3kms from Souths’ Redfern Oval heartland.

All options remain open for Souths with a final decision delayed, possibly until December, when the planned merger between the SCG Trust and Venues NSW has been completed.

The State Government — given their extensive financial outlay in building the stadium — will push clubs towards playing at the new venue. Some in rugby league even suggest the government would make the “ultimate decision” on who plays where.

A move east would mean Souths sharing the new SFS will fierce rivals, the Sydney Roosters. The government would also need to offer Souths some financial assurances for a relocation.

Should Souths shift back east, the club could still play two games each season at ANZ Stadium – one being the successful Good Friday clash against Canterbury.

Souths are unlikely to use Bankwest Stadium, Parramatta, as a home ground when the new SFS reopens.

The NRL and State Government authorities are locked in talks over which teams could be directed to play at the new SFS, expected to be completed mid to late 2022. Negotiations have been described as delicate and protracted.

ANZ Stadium’s scrapped redevelopment through COVID will also impact Souths’ ultimate decision. Rabbitohs powerbrokers are yet to be told by the Government whether ANZ Stadium will eventually be redeveloped or refurbished.

While Souths aren’t included in any top-level discussions between the NRL and Government, well-placed sources claim the Rabbitohs will be gently encouraged to return to the east.

The Rabbitohs have kept the survey results confidential, while they await the NSW Government and NRL to confirm a stadium strategy.

Souths have robust financial advantages by playing at ANZ Stadium – a deal the club would hope to mirror with a move to the SFS. While Souths supporters are spread throughout Sydney’s west, the club’s heartland has – since 1908 – been in Sydney’s east.

One potential concern for ANZ Stadium would around the reduced content for their members should Souths move. A possible answer could be a new strategy where one Sydney stadium membership could incorporate the SFS and ANZ Stadium.

Souths has a strong and successful relationship with ANZ Stadium CEO Daryl Kerry and fans speak of the easy road transport and parking options at Olympic Park.

The Rabbitohs previously played at the old SFS between 1988 – when the arena opened – until 2005. A shift to ANZ was lucrative for Souths and allowed the club to grow its crowds and membership year-on-year.

Some NRL figures are dubious the SFS will be ready by mid-2022 and believes the start of 2023 – the year of a State election – would be a more realistic completion date.

Certainly fantastic news if we do end up moving! When the survey came out, I must admit, I voted to remain at ANZ. However, I've had a long time to think about it since then and listen to everyone's opinions on line. I have become convinced that moving to the SFS is the way to go. It'd be perfect really, looks like it'll be an incredible Stadium! Will hopefully see us shit all over the Roosters in terms of crowd numbers to turn it into 'our Stadium' and obviously, as mentioned, it is in our heartland. Seems the right way to go.

Moving to the new SFS but not forgetting ANZ and still playing a few games there a year would be perfect in my opinion.

From Fox Sports,

SAM STEERS TOWARDS COACHING CAREER

BIG Sammie Burgess has made a colossal impression at South Sydney since entering the bubble in June and seems destined to pursue a career as a head coach.

The Bunnies have won four from six since Burgess has returned to Redfern full-time and the Souths players all feed off the club champion’s presence.

It’s not unusual to see Burgess revving up players and leading field sessions, particularly in the absence of seven-time premiership-winning coach Wayne Bennett.

The Bunnies say they won’t be pursuing sacked Broncos forward Tevita Pangai despite his strong relationship with Bennett from their time in Brisbane.

Getting back to rumours, the JAC to Souths rumour is doing another round, JAC got himself a new agent, the same one who manages Damien Cook. Plus we know how JAC and Latrell love sharing hugs and guns LOL :joy:

The main reason he is leaving melb, looking through the lines, is money, same as vinualu, they dont pay their wingers much, jac apparently is on 330k actually slightly less than AJ, and AJ has not played origin or consistently for Aust. So the excuse is family reasons, we probably think for an extra 50k on top of Ajs money we can get a better player, but, at some stage there will be a bidding war, will he accept what we are offering? Or will he go to the highest bidder? Who knows, and in the meantime weve lost a decent player, Aj i think for all his fanfair about staying has priced himself out of the team and wether he gets more than a winger deserves is debatable. Could be the wing spot is being vacated for another reason, Suaali, you dont pay 500k a year for someone to play reserve grade, and he is on the cap.
My views are well known on this forum, our problem is forwards, TPjnr would elevate us to top 4, and if we cant afford him, jack hetherington is another mongrel our pack would benefit from, we have in our 30 a few players that are dead wood, Dillon, that centre we got from newcastle, we need to replace them with players that can step up, increasing the quality of the squad.
