NRL clubs rarely take penalty goals from 40m out. I doubt they'll be hammering the sticks with FG attempts unless theyre at the point of no return.
Then you'll have markers standing a metre offside, blockers and offside defenders borking the kicker, which they wont penalise.
The NRL should move to the Cave
Exactly what Queensland did in game 1 and 3 this year. Only teams have been given an even bigger exploit now. I agree the offside six again and the 2 point field goal are shockers but I like most of the rest of the changes.Im generally against the constant rule changes that RL has each year.
Don't mind most of these presented. And naturally fans will howl them down as they do most times.
However while I like the 6 again rule in general play for ruck issues - the issue I see is by not blowing the whistle for a penalty, the attacking team doesn't get the option to kick for goal. Now that offside counts here too.. I really see a flaw.
If a side is attacking & down by two points near the end of a game, the defence can stand offside or ruin the ruck without giving away a penalty goal kick. The attacking team MUST score a try to win. Yes they may give away a professional foul / binning.. but if there's only seconds on the clock left...
The 6 again in this situation is blatantly open to exploitation by the defence to spoil the attack to close out a game.
So..
Your side is down by two points, has the ball inside the opposition half with 30 seconds to go... Your opponent is lying all over the ball carrier in the tackles to waste time, standing offside to blunt the attack, you're getting effectively useless "6 again" calls... all the while the clock is winding down to fulltime and no penalty is blown... you lose by 2..
How you gonna feel then..
Or what happens similarly near the end of the game if you're down by 1.. going for a field goal, the defence is blatantly offside and charges down the attempt... only for you to get a "6 again" rule .. which you can only use IF you recover the ball.... and with bugger all time left in the game to do anything with it.
Rules like this have flaws. And the refs' will cop the brunt by ruling to these..
On the bright side the defense might get a player sin binned with 5 seconds to go. Very useful!Im generally against the constant rule changes that RL has each year.

Who the heck wanted this shit? We got rid of 2 point field goals in 1971 for a reason - to make teams run the ball! We do not need to bring back 2 point field goals in any way, shape, or form!!!!!
Why rule on a subjective thing like a genuine attempt? Black and white, did he play the ball with his foot or not? What constitutes a ‘genuine attempt to play the ball with their foot’? So often you see players almost miming a play the ball. Expect this one to be penalised a lot in the opening couple of weeks, people will complain and then it won’t be enforced anymore.
