Just returned from the game.

Main two reasons why NSW lost:

1. Freddy picked Moses and Simple Jack over Reynolds and Walker.

2. NSW made too many errors.

Sutton and the bunker were far from helpful with the two dead set penalties on the kick chasers, but the Blues didn’t play as well as they needed.

Blues best tonight. Payne Haas. Absolute metre-eater…

honorable mentions. Finucane (a tonne of work early, a lost ball close to the line his only blemish), Sims (pure aggression, what the blues need), Martin (when he came on, extra aggression - loved it), To’o (my favourite blue, I see why the panthers love him so much)

Maroons best. Split decision between Ponga n Hunt. Both were outstanding imo.

honourable mentions. Papalii (back to his best), Welch (showed how much he was missed in game 1), Capewell (all effort), Molo (looks the goods)

Worsts???

There were no howlers tonight IMO, just some more effective than others…

But if you had to throw some out there…

Tedesco - tough judging here but indeed when he got the ball, things closed down.

Murray - didn’t see much of him apart from the knock on in an attacking position.

Moses - first half mainly. Played basic and was under pressure a lot but his debut and did set up tries in the 2nd half…

Munster - more that you’d have higher expectations than he dished out tonight. was average. Hasn’t been right all series. Probably needs more nights out on the piss.

Cherry Evans. Apart from the kick where Addo Carr tipped it over the sideline , can’t remember much from him. Not a night for the halves…

Going for 2 in the 78th min, misses, worst decision ever. Parallel universe, kicks a goal from 50 out in the 78th min to lock it up, what a bold heroic play from the blues, this teams never beaten.

It's as bad as the old 7 puts up two identical bombs that land in the same place, one the fullback with know one near him catches and runs 20mtrs, everyone, poor kick that, really should have looked at other options. The other identical bomb, the fullback, with know one near him, fumbles and knocks on, great kick that!!! has the game on a string, knows when to take the right option bla bla friggin bla

I know it wasn’t his fault, as he should have been replaced, but Haas’ fatigue directly contributed to the last the Qld tries. He was enormous, but was given too much time.

Don’t forget Gagai.
He would have won the Mitch Pearce award for worst players of the series.

NSW was missing their starting front row from Origin 1. Of course the halves.

No Ponga or Hunt in game 1. Different series if Ponga plays every game
Obviously NSW can get stronger next year when their injured return, but so can QLD. Harry Grant and Fifita come back, Brimson, Walsh, Walker…Val Holmes was set for a big game until he got injured…Munster has done f**k all in each game so he will improve and hopefully we get 3 games out of Ponga.
If QLD can find some defensive centres, we are in for some cracking years of origin ahead.

Totally agree. NSW were made out by some in the media to be all conquering and would create a dynasty like QLD's 8 straight. If anything the result from game 3 shows that NSW wouldn't be capable of doing it. Yes I get that QLD only had 1 clean sweep during their 8 straight, but this series has felt like to me that NSW had a much better side than QLD for all 3 games of this series.
During QLD's 8 straight there were some evenly matched sides.

Agree. Could be some great tussles over the coming years.

NRL terrified of killing the goose that laid the golden egg. So what you end up with is WWE. At least WWE don't try to pretend it's fair dinkum. Both the ref and the bunker complicit in getting Qld up. The Qld offside that was not penalised followed by Martin getting taken out by Munster on the kick chase were pretty glaring.

I agree there were some calls that I didn’t agree with, but I don’t think that is a QLD/NSW thing, but there are two long-time trends at play there.

1) In big games there is definitely a bias to keep the scores close. NSW and the Panthers have been on the receiving end of that, but we have also benefited; the Panthers were the beneficiaries in the GF last year when we were awarded that BS try to Capewell!! (As an aside I call this the MarioKart rules; when you are coming last in MarioKart races you get given good stuff to help catch up, while when you are coming first all you get are banana skins...)

2) Our referees are weak. Week in, week out you see referees swallow the whistle in the last 10 mins of games, for fear of being the story. Just red the games like you did for the rest of the 80 mins!!

Yeah I think you are spot on as well as the Fox going missing once he got hit in the back

It was the right choice to try for the kick and it was almost there. If it wasn't a dead rubber then it would have been the total wrong choice
