He's definitely a crucial part of our attack. But not putting Matt Burton to the halves and Tago in the side made Clearys loss even worse for us. We lose our best player and the best half in the competition, and Ivan ignores Burton and brings in Tyrone May who hasn't done shit all season.
I know he scored a try last night. But f**k me dead the guy is a handbrake to the attack. Ivan has some obsession with just throwing him in to fix problems ignoring the problems he creates in those positions.
His utility value these days is nothing more than Ivan putting him into positions anyone else could have done just as poorly in and then being too stubborn to admit he was poor and re-evaluate. He failed in back to back games in the halves with Burton being the shining light in those games only to be given a third chance ahead of Burton.
There is an old saying in footy. If, as a coach, you listen to the fans, you'll end up sitting with them. Ivan did not ignore Burton. He considered he'd be more use playing where he normally plays, to preserve the team's structures in the outside backs and five-eighth. This is also why he played Staines at fullback. His hand will be forced now and Burton will be the 6 next game. We did win this game you know, and it was against a pretty fair side.
With Luai now injured as well, it is 100% certain Tyrone May will wear the 7 next game, and more than likely the game after that too. You really should get behind him. The club has no other viable options. Not a dickybird.
Consider it a bit like the Roosters using Sam Walker. Sam is very skilful but not very robust. Tyrone May is robust but not so skilful, but its not that he doesn't have the ability, he's just out of form and lacking confidence. 2 weeks of running plays with Burton and the team might do wonders for him.
