I’ll just do the key stats for each.
Sivo - 13 runs, 158m, 3 kick returns, 67 post contact, 6 TBs, 2 tackles, one half shit but also 1 trysaver
Opacic - 12 runs, 108m, 3 TBs, 20 tackles, 3 half shit and 1 trysaver “tackle”
Waqa - 10 runs, 89m, 4 TBs, 16 tackles, 2 shit
Fergo - 18 runs, 185m, 4 TBs, 2 LBs, 1 try assist
Lane - 9 runs, 93m, 0 passes, 29 tackles, 3 shit ones, 3 errors and a penalty
Matto - 12 runs, 110m, 4 decoy runs, 1 TB, 5 passes, 3 offloads, 34 tackles, 4 shitish ones, 2 errors
I’ll include Papali’i in middles.

So the obvious ones... Fergo was good. His defence was still bad but we only got exposed a couple of times down that side, but his offence was good.
Lane’s stats look poor but are made worse when you realise his penalty, 3 errors and missed tackles all incurred within 20-30 minutes. Was up there with his efforts last year vs Manly.

I was going to rip Waqa for not being involved more but after looking at Lane’s errors plus 0 passes, Waqa would have had to come inside Lane (snigger) to see the ball. Still get more involved FFS!

On watching I thought Opacic was hohum as being essentially a backup he would be. I remember him running one decent line near the try line but other than that crabbing and being unimpactful. Stats say otherwise though. He’s not going to be a great hit up runner but he puts in the effort.

Matto had a goodish game. His metreage could be better, but I find it unsurprising that he looked like he had an ok game and was only 1 of 2 Eels to feature in the top 50 decoy runs this week. I’m not saying it’s a surefire stat (Wigers had 2 in the top 10 and they looked f**ken awful) but I do think it’s required ability for success for teams that attack from side to side. Matto just looked like he gave a f**k compared to his backrow partner.

And then Sivo... Yes his defence on Coates was shite. Yes it’s heart in mouth when he goes up for a bomb. Yes he did seem to disappear for a big portion of the second half. But he ran HARD and despite disappearing, he still ran a lot. Taking out the massive 25m he got from 3 kick returns, he averaged over 13m a run and was again only 1 of 2 Eels in top 50 for PCM. I was not expecting that return off what I saw in game.

Absolutely. And not just to the lost possession but what little off ball effort we did have shrunk even further probably because players didn’t want to make further errors. Some of that is also on the halves for communication
Also, when teams are under the pump defensively they need a chance to recover, and that chance is usually taken while they have the ball, which is when a lot of off-the-ball movement falls away. It becomes a vicious circle.

Like Pac-Man?
But the best way to break that cycle is to put the effort in off ball. You can recover when you’re dead merkins!

These teams had worse completion rates than us:
Souffs
Dogs
Smuggies
Cows

That is all. But yeah stop dropping the f**ken ball you f**ks! That first half was abysmal
It was. I'm guessing it was the worst half of any team, and if not it'd be a bee's dick in it. That's why I still had hope at halftime.

Middles
RCG - 13 runs, 127m, 23 tackles, 2 shit ones, 1 error
Paulo - 14 runs, 140m, 4 TBs, 5 decoy runs, 1 line break, 5 offloads, 32 tackles, 6 various shit ones
Nrown - 15 runs, 119m, 3 TBs, 6 passes, 1 offload, 29 tackles, 4 shit ones, 1 error
Oregon - 7 runs, 108m, 3 kick returns, 62m, 16 tackles
Papali’i - 18 runs, 193m, 70 PCM, 4 TBs, 30 tackles, 3 shitish ones
Haven’t included Hipgrave or Smith because they barely played.

I thought RCG and Nrown had fairly bland games. Stats kind of back that up. They didn’t make the situation worse but they didn’t turn it around either.

I barely noticed Oregon. Stats showed he did his job mostly. Those kick return metres are actually pretty impressive but it’s probably more of an indictment on Boncos kickoffs. I’d like to see him get more involved particularly if he’s playing short minutes.

Paulo had some defensive issues but I’d like to see where those shit tackles were because he covered a lot of ground in defence. That stat line shows just how much effort he put in. If all our players put in a portion of that effort, it’d make a huge difference.

Papali’i is a clear cut MOM visually and statistically. He singlehandedly dragged us back into that game.

N.Brown produced 2 runs that swung momentum.
Jnr went through a 15min period where he was unstoppable in attack amd defense. He was smashing everything that moved. Stats don't show that.

RCG,Matterson where ordinary imo.
Lane was shocking.
Kafusi was decent but no single run was a momentum changer.

f**ken der! stats don’t show everything.
RCG and Nrown had sort of minimum level performances.
But Matto we get the opposite. Visually he didn’t seem to do much but statistically he did more than all bar Paulo and Papali’i. Don’t understate what those decoy runs can provide. A good decoy run affects the entire defensive structure leading to line breaks and quick play the balls, especially on the edges
