How can we be that far behind manly .

It is the extra year being added. All the good 19 year olds are playing higher grades

Puru scored a 2 tries and kicked 8 goals in Flegg
Conor Mason scored in Flegg
Turuva and Tago are playing in NSW Cup

Not just here but Suaalli and Sam Walker for the Roosters are Ball aged too. So it is a strange year for Ball

Canberra and Knights didn't put a team in Flegg for this reason

Is perhaps that in younger age groups when a team gets on a roll it's hard to stop momentum. I noticed this Manly team was close to being top of the table, where as Penrith is placed 8th ? Are the Penrith kids playing age groups above themselves too ?

Injuries are really shaping up as being a critical factor this season with the rule changes and speed of the game. It really could be the survival of the fittest and healthiest by the time we get towards the semi finals.

Personally I hope the NRL don’t introduce the 18th man concept. I think things should be left as is and coaches need to manage there bench rotations better to manage fatigue. As happened on the weekend there will be occasions where sides suffer injuries due to concussions and other injuries, it is just part of our game.

Nope HIAs should be looked after and coaches/players incentivised to get them off the field. You don't want to lose a game because a few concussions.

Bellamy will just use an extra man to rest players. There needs to be a way of stopping this.

I like the idea of just increasing bench size with same amount of interchanges. Putting rules on use of 18th man will see coaches try to exploit it.

But give everyone the same bench and they can use it as they see fit. With limited interchange the coaches wont want to burn them and waste them on 18th and 19th placed players unless injuries force him to need them anyway.

As the initial interchanges to bring 14 through 17 on will then lead to coaches wanting their starters back on anyway.

If anything clubs like ours would benefit more with added depth should we try to exploit it..but realistically i imagine the 18th and 19th players would really mostly be used in cases of injury anyway due to the same amount of interchanges.

Just make it so the player coming off can't play the next week. It wouldn't be worth trying to exploit.

I also like this. There's not enough interchanges to make 15 - 17 players a big advantage and can still make HIA players miss a week to avoid exploitation of the rule.

Losing a bench prop for a week would mean nothing

You're not gaining anything since you'll be replacing them with a reserve grade prop and messing your bench rotation. Teams already struggle once their bench comes on. Imagine some development player having to fill in a week.

Coaches abuse anything and everything they can so don't give them the option. Grey areas in the game need to be removed not expanded. IF anything is to be done adding players to the bench is the only option

The first comment of mine agreed with that option. The best would be increasing the bench but keeping the number of changes the same, players who go off for HIA can't play the next week and foul play resulting in HIA is a send of no question and harsh penalties at the judiciary.

I would just leave things as they are. Its a gladiator sport, survival of the fittest. The only thing I would even consider is HIA's caused by foul play can be replaced by an 18th man. There isn't much opportunity for coaches to gain an advantage out of that. You need the foul play for it to become possible and then you have one 18th man sitting there not a whole lot of players to pick from.

What they need to do is coming down harder on shots like Kafusi and Dallin came up with.

Well im not convinced that DWZ headshot was intentional, was just a bad miss, but having nathan get replaced by an 18th man burton, we would still win the game, other clubs don't have our depth, i reckon it should be a development player only

I am not saying it was an intentional but it was a stiff swinging arm to the head on a bloke that was standing upright, it was extremely reckless.

Do you honestly think if it was a finals game Sharks bench is cleared?

If you want to treat head knocks seriously then need to make it less of an incentive to ignore them.

Having a Development player or something on the bench should stop it being rorted and leave the pressure off the doctors to allow guys to play

Also, the opposing doctor has to have a say.
