2021 season

As it turns out we’ve had a really soft start to season 2021.

It’s easy to say now certain sides are easy beats, but I am surprised the Cowboys are going so busted, the Bulldogs and Sea Eagles have some quality players in there rosters so I am a little surprised by the score line blowouts.

Our game against the Sea Eagles, we never really got out of 2nd gear and basically cruised to victory, despite missing two key members of our spine.

The blowout scores we are seeing must be a major concern for the game. It is clearly not healthy when 6 or 7 games from each round thus far are decided by the winning side winning by such substantial margins.

Blowouts early on were to be expected

Take the Dogs.
Shorter pre-season.
Limited to one trial.
New coach will take time.

Roster needs an overhaul but usually that means young guys. Which in this case have played barely any football last year

By mid season blowouts will get less frequent and back to normal...Or NRL will change the rules

Some teams just need to sort out their management and get professional about it. The days when a good coach and strong playing squad can cover for a poor back office are gone, the management job is more than sorting out a chook raffle now. Manly with their shitty facilities are poor management have been headed this way for years, bringing back Des after his dogs stint is a clear sign they had no plan and no idea how to move the club forward so they tried bringing back to the guy who brought them their last success, the game has moved on from that setup. You need proper management, proper facilities, proper high performance staff, proper marketing etc if you dont have all this you will not be attracting and keeping the best people at your club. Dogs are another club who's management is a huge problem. Broncos are a professional setup but they have had some issues in the back office and just made a lot of bad roster decisions, also another club that churned through some coaches before going back to the last coach who brought them success, then they knifed him and brought in seibold. I mean some of these decisions being made f**k clubs up for years.

Yet people are arguing it's the set restart rule and we've had no entertaining games this year.

I feel people are over analysing the rounds as blowouts, but it just depends on the 2 clubs matched up against each other, going off last year's ladder Penrith(1st2020) vs Manly(13th2020)
Its just uneven for this round= blowout!, but look at last round, Penrith(1st2020) vs Storm(2nd2020) =close & cracker of a game.
So if there's a round that has a lot of high placed teams vs lower placed teams going off 2020 placing, its safe to assume it should flow one way.
There are a few interesting teams that are competing better tho, that are the Dragons, Warriors and Titans, who seem to be beating or closing the gap and losing vs the top8 teams, not so much a blown out game, even winning a few, dragons vs knights was a pretty close match, these are the improvers.
The warriors Vs Roosters was pretty solid, but roosters last year would have put 50 on them, so there is impovement, and Titans are competing, but raiders are too strong for most clubs, that also could have been a blowout last year

People just think what the media writing, they are so influenced by it. The media takes everything to an extreme and many people just go along. I just read there was an even more uneven round back in 2004. Go back five years and I can remember so many games of footy that people just absolutely bagged for being so shit, tv rating were dropping and the skill was going out of the game.

The rule changes probably are making a difference because good sides adapt a lot quicker. Imagine Penrith compared to the dogs this year trying to learn to play to the new rules this offseason. Penrith are a well oiled machine and only making minor tweaks to our game. Clubs like the dogs, cows, broncos are trying to undo years of losing habits, learn a new coaches system, make big improvements to their attack and defensive structures...all with squads that are not good. There is only so much that can be done in one offseason.

The thing is I see people complaining...Yet no one seems to say how to fix it
There's nothing to fix, be better, dont drop your nuts and stop giving away ruck infringements, simple stuff, you'll get more ball, if you complete sets even if you hand it over on their 10 metre line. If your defending back to back sets, i don't care which team it is, your gonna fatigue, and there lies to points or penalties

As I said in the main thread.

Papenhuyzen went nuts.
Cook had a few good runs which blew that game out

Warriors and GC had their chances just weren't good enough

But theyre not bad when they verse each other, look at the difference in Dragons vs Knights on last Sunday, and then Warriors Vs Titans 1st round, both good match ups and entertaining, compare that with broncos vs dogs last week, and cowboys vs anyone!

There's a divide because of the roster of the lower placed teams are either top heavy or too inexperienced or both,
4 way battle for the spoon = Cowboys, Broncos, SeaEagles, Bulldogs
All 4 teams lack depth and a Forward pack to challenge the remaining 12 clubs, who all vary in pretty good mixtures of their forwards, but these are woeful, especially when it comes to the fatigue that the sixagain causes

Try telling that to these people. Does my head in people seem to be incapable of making clubs accountable.

There is always a period of adjustment. I remember there was a small period when they reduced the interchange years ago. And again last year with the 6 again ruling.

The fitter clubs are being rewarded. By next year any club with half a brain will make that their focus.

By next year it will still be Broncos vs Dogs for the Spoon, seems like Manly and Cowboys are sorting their respective downsides out already, Payten seems to be focusing on improving defence and roster, whilst not winning, and Des will want to replace his forward pack with some big units soon, as losing Curtis Sironen to a knee injury, releasing Addin Fanoua Blake to the warriors, and year B4 Joel Thompson to ESL and Shaun Lane to Pawwa. and to boot aswell =turbos hamstring is another huge blow, can't leave only Jurbo and Tapow as experienced forwards, they'll just owned every day of the week, with rookie forwards
