Kikau made 6 or so errors
Cleary fails to find touch
Throws an intercept
We complete 60%

the whole game was poor. Changing a centre alone doesn't help

That is my point. Decisions before and during the game gave us the result we deserved.

No he was fullback when NYC won it. Got in team of the year in that position.
Was wing or bench in NSW Cup

I am not sure if you have Kayo and can watch old games. There were 2 games in particular at home v GC and Dragons were Mansour would of scored if given the ball.

Dragons game early on Naden was through the gap. Came to the fullback instead of drawing and passing to unmarked Mansour. Went for the corner and into touch. Few forward passes thrown too.

You saw the difference this year when Mansour was outside an actual centre

Throw in the can have bad reads in defence. He is good under the high ball. Generally good at kicks full stop and seems perfect winger.

The Souths game at Kogarah was his best game of the year on the wing. Even the tough stuff in the rain in Gosford he was good on the wing.

I know others don't agree but he is my right winger in a fully fit 17

From memory naden played almost all of 2014 nyc at centre. Pretty sure chn was our fb haha. In 2015 he started in the centres and malko falino came in and naden went from centres to fb. Edwards was a few years young and played wing. He moved to his more natural fb spot in 2016.

Naden made nyc team of year on the bench. Tommy t was fb.

I have kayo. For all the negatives you've mentioned I could mention twice as many positive things he did. Critta probably shouldve thrown the ball 20 times to his winger last year for tries but didn't. Critta also got shown up massively by waqa vs parra. A few mistakes doesn't mean they aren't suited to that position.

Need to give them time in fg to learn and adapt. Got to take the good with the bad when they first come in.

For mine our strongest backline this year is;

1. Edwards
2. Staines
3. Naden
4. Critta
5. Too

But even then. Im not expecting Staines to be an instant sensation. Will need time to learn. He will have plenty of great moments and some average, just like naden last year.

From round 5 on I agree with you.

With Momo then the replacement for any back 5 injury, as in he is straight in at centre if Crichton or Naden is injured, is in at centre if an injury to a winger with Naden to moved to the wing, and in at centre if Edwards is injured with Staines to fullback, and Naden to wing.

I think Naden with more speed is a better winger than Momo, so Naden moves to wing if needed to cover injury with Momo a good back up centre option to have in NSW cup to come into FG when needed.

But having said all that, if Momo kills it at right centre whilst Naden is out for his month suspension, then Momo keeps his spot and Naden has to work his ass off in NSW cup to get back in FG.

And it proved a mistake
If his defence was that bad that it got exposed against the Roosters in a back and forth game where we were the better team doesn't it reason it would have been much worse against a Storm team that dominated us pretty thoroughly up the middle with a guy like Cam Smith at hooker? It not happening seems incredibly unlikely to me.

In fact as a fb Naden was our only player in the that NYC team of the year. Look at these guys who played first grade in that team. Naden, Cleary (played most of the year), Luai, Leota, Burns, Martin, Edwards, May, R. Jennings, Oliver Clarke, JFH, CHN, Kaide Ellis.

We would have been as far up the field to attack in the first place to throw 20 try scoring cut out passes if Critter played fb? Edwards usually takes 15-20 runs a game and makes bulk metres. Averaged the 5th most of any player last year. Critter makes like 8-10 runs a game and without a line break usually doesn't crack a 100 metres.

I'm almost sure our back 3 made the most metres of any team last year. Take away that and the forwards have shoulder more work reducing their effectiveness to some degree. We'd probably get a less quick play the balls putting someone in an opportunity to throw a pass to score a try. Because Crichton's not in the middle he probably isn't in the middle to receive offloads so the admittedly few times Edwards broke the line through that wouldn't have happened. That Kikau try that won us the first game against Melbourne early in the year came off an Edwards run doing that and getting a quick play the ball to send the defence retreating and getting Kikau more of a run up.

It's not just things that score tries or try saving defence. There's many things that go on a Rugby League field to get into those positions.

Name me one centre that hasn't had a shocker in defence at some point.

IC thought he'd outsmart Bellamy and put tmay in to tighten up our defence. In reality it played right into Bellamy's hands and he targeted thst side knowing tmay is very slow laterally.

Ivan had a great year as coach but that was a blunder.

Naden is fairly consistently bad in defence, but he’s so good in attack in could potentially make up for it. I do think it was a mistake to change the team at the last moment like that, though. We had nothing in attack on the right, so Melbourne were able to stack the defence against our left side. Naden would’ve given them more to think about.

If things weren't changed and we lost. Then it is why didn't he change something after poor finals game. It was a no win situation

I doubt it. There would’ve been a lot less said if he didn’t change a winning team.

You can’t say the decision to move Naden cost us the GF, but nonetheless it was a very odd decision.

You don't think after the Roosters final in week 1 that the team needed a tweek?

At the time I was banging my head against the wall like everyone else, Naden shat the bed. But we had two weeks off, lots of time to work on his defence, and if things got bad you always could’ve hooked him for May. But then after seeing May play at centre against Souths, I knew we needed to go back to Naden. It wasn’t that May played poorly, he did okay, but he was up against a fellow back rowers, and the team lacked spark. Melbourne were able to take advantage of our lack of right side attack, they stacked the defence against our left side, we weren’t quick enough to take advantage of it.

At the very least Naden should’ve come on in the GF much earlier. We were struggling to score points, and he’s a huge strike weapon.

Staines is yet to prove he is a regular FGer. Shows heaps of promise but it is usually back and forth out of the top side with a rookie

As long as Staines stays fit he’s a must for the wing. Raw pace is one area our backline needed improving in.

I agree Naden is more of a winger, but Staines is so electric and the wing is the perfect place for a backline rookie to start.

Naden 30 games after debuting half way through 2019. 20 tries is not a bad effort. He has a few issues, yes can make a poor read in defence but overall I don’t think he is a liability in defence. It will be interesting to se how his replacement goes, defence is supposed to be his biggest asset.

The brains trust put all there eggs in the one basket thou, chose to show faith in Staines ahead of the elder statesmen. We can’t afford the gamble to backfire. Staines really needs to be an instant success.

Forced myself to re watch the 2020 gf for the first time today. Had a few beers the night of the gf and the game was a bit of a blur so was painful rewatching today.

One thing I really took away from the game was the impact Naden had when he came on. He was absolutely fantastic and looked incredibly dangerous. The same, if not moreso than Critta.

I think everyone, IC included, probably acknowledges he stuffed up and Nado should have been starting centre.

From the trials Nada looked in the best shape he has ever been.

I really hope Brent can hit the ground running in NSW cup, have a big 4 games and then come back up.

For mine, Brent was definitely one of our underrated stars of last season. You could see throughout the year how much he loves playing with this group of boys. Watch his reaction after he sets up Staines for his (I think, from memory, it was the) 4th try on debut. That try was all him.

He has a never give up attitude and is a real competitor. Some might disagree with me, but, I see a bit of GI in Naden. He is as quick as GI, is strong, has a good offload. Defence is not up to GI level but that can improve.

He obviously has his mental health issues, hopefully they are behind him. I hope Brent can really put it all together this year, because, if he can, I think the best is yet to come and he will be great for the Panthers.
