Maybe the sandpaper incident was a good time for him to call it a day
Smith has been digging us out of hole after deep hole for the best part of the past decade in all formats. Showed yesterday he still has that steel needed even in 20 over matches. The guy, like all champions lifts in the big shows. I dont think the Sth African incident affected his cricketing ability.. perhaps the opposite. Recall his exploits in England in Ashes '19. Many say this was his greatest ever batting.. some even say it was the best ever Ashes batting.. Bradman included.

My bad mate. Yes Warner's game has shown a clear depreciation over past few years. He is a hand/eye player and those powers appear to have waned. His ferocious slashes to the rope outside the off stump he now misses. Broad showed up his lack of a technique last Ashes. That should have set the bell ringing that he was on the Test downhill slide.

Can't have Warner and Finch both opening. Neither have any form over the past 12 months. One needs to go for Inglis.

It's sacrelige, but I'd consider moving Smith to 5 below Maxwell and Marsh. Smith can play the saviour batting 5 if needed, and has good skill batting with the tail.

Cummins is a beast but hasn't played in ages. Hazlewood should be playing instead.

Goodness. Paul Stirling 2021 looks like he went back in time and ate Paul Stirling 2016

Had hi hopes for Ireland. Decided to defer red ball for the shorter formats last year during the pandemic. Now they will feel shattered.

Warner
Finch
Marsh

Above scored 11 runs between them in the warm up because they are inept players of spin. These are spinning decks yet CA will continue to pick the trio in the same positions because they are, well, big names in white ball cricket. Yes they are.. on flat non spinning tracks. Inglis and Maxwell are good players of spin. I'd have them opening as captains are going to use spin to target the openers.

I thought MMarsh was considerably our best bat v Bangladesh in the 5 game t20 series in Bangladesh in August, the decks there seemed to be a lot more spin friendly than what I have seen in these warmups . Though Warner and Finch are concerning across a period of time
