Why don’t you save your valuable knowledge and advice on rugby league for the game in England

Do you still have one of those stickers on your car? You know the "if you dont like it" sticker that the Boomers and rednecks seemed to love so much?

Likewise you don’t know anybody on here. We’d all love to see the game become number one in this country if not the world but we’re also realistic. Unlike our game, AFL doesn’t have a rival code that gets played in private schools taking most of the corporate dollars and all the political privileges that come with it as well as a compliant media service.

Being proud of our growth, despite we’re we came from and especially after the game was torn apart not that long ago doesn’t mean we’re content to stay second either but we’ll gladly take it for now. The current state of the game has given us reasons to be optimistic. Seriously, it’s like shagging Jessica Alba but you’re not happy because she’s not Margot Robbie. Shame you can’t enjoy it but yeh, I’m happy.

Afl didn’t have super league

They didnt have it, but only because they didnt take the road when it presented itself - first the bigger clubs themselves had a summit about leaving the comp at Macedon in 1985, then went to the VFL and came to an arrangement that benefited everyone leading to the formation of the independent commission.

John Elliot says he was approached by Rupert Murdoch about forming a superleague in late 1994, but he declined. The AFL believed its license agreements that prevented a departing club from playing in another licensed competition for at least 2 years would prevent any club from leaving.

without super league we were number one

That position is highly debatable. Media rights went the VFLs way in the early to mid 90s, so did attendances. TV audiences I honestly couldnt tell you.

Yeh I’d much rather $600mill than $900mill revenue but a higher % increase lol. In 25 years we might have overtaken them.
Nothing Ive posted isnt correct.
It would only take 7 years not 25 years using the past 10 years as a reference point.

The AFL mens also have 1 extra game a round and the women's have 4 games. Add to that there is more opportunities for ad breaks during play for AFL.

So you can't look at the absolute numbers hence growth rates is the correct measure.

He isn’t interested in doing anything rational .
He has one goal .
Put down The NRL ( esp PVL) at the expense of his beloved AFL .
No matter what positive comes out about RL he instantly starts posting negatives while posting glowing reports about AFL .

I get the feeling he’s like a lot of lapsed league fans that they follow / like afl just because it’s popular ie the bandwagon

and the minute League takes over they would jump on that bandwagon

The NRL will renew their broadcast deals around 2025 according to Masters about 2 years ahead of the expiration of current deal 2027.AFL new deal starts 2025.Thus there will be an opportunity for later comparison between the 2 codes for the years 2028-2031- 4 years.Who is to say what sort of closing the gap will be .
Anycase in 2021 in the midst of COVID when the NRL was looking at and wanted to commit funds to expansion ,they signed the new deal early.
I submit 2 reasons as to why:
1. An expansion team costs money and the RL got that money from Fox commitment .
2. By signing the contracts the time the NRL did in a period of an absolute cluster*ck, they secured financial certainty including the necessary funding for the Dolphins.Expansion could not be delayed till 2022 if Bennett's
lot need 2023 entry.
Now we can all be financial geniuses and medical experts ATT as PR pretends to be, but if 2021 health issues had become worse, would expansion to Brisbane been entertained and would tv stations have even bothered to negotiate deals at a higher price? We saw the crap that went on with Nein in 2020.

This constant crapping on about the AFL and what they got, is typographical diarrhoea. It flows freely but goes nowhere, and can be painful .
We got an extra team covered by Fox, we made a profit in a trying period of our lives, all NRL clubs have financial certainty, we have a NZ team(AFL has Nauru at best),we have an asset ( Gambaro hotel) in Brisbane, but, but the AFL .

Nailed it.

I am happy to in theory take less to get expansion happening now ( cricket struggled to get a deal after waiting)

It allows the possibly of 9 games to be sold at the next TV talks, We don't have it if the Deal is held off

I’m sure the negative whinging bugger from the west will find a whole range of fatuous reasons to disagree with this excellent post. Gil’s biggest fan boy is an incurable afl lover!

I’ve been saying team 18 will be announced this year

the worrying thing is it looks like he’s going to not take it to market and just get 50 to 75 million extra from nine and fox

I would just add the extra team and get a smaller increase under the current contract for a few years then take the 18 team comp to market

down the track an 18 team comp should see nrl tv deals at least match afl

if they go to 20 teams afl can’t match them even if afl goes to 20 it will be teams like tasmania and Darwin
