I love Midnight Oil, and I'm not a loser.I did go out but if you think Midnight Oil are cool, you are a loser.
I supported the Marilyn camp when he broke up from boy George.

Ironically, or coincidently, I'm texting from the Burnie (TAS) foreshore. Remember the song from "Place without a Postcard"? Gone are the pools of toxic slime from the old paper mill. Thanks Pete.I love Midnight Oil, and I'm not a loser.
He was dumb that Peter Garrett dancing around like a clown gimp.
Bit like you tigers supporters or is it magpies .He was dumb that Peter Garrett dancing around like a clown gimp.

The hipsters of Balmain or battlers of Campbelltown i heard as a teenagers you shaved your head in honour of Garrett but walked around with a white glove grabbing your crotch moon walking
When I was younger, I went to a concert in Flemmington markets. The Angels, Midnight Oil and The Radiators, played. It was a great time.@Kilkenny thanks for the heads up on The Angels doco. I'll definitely be seeing that. I couldn't count the amount of times I saw them live, everywhere from Panthers, Selinas, The Enmore, Sutherland, Shellharbour and countless other places. No Exit would still rank amongst my favorite albums of all time.
One of the last times I saw them was the Lounge Lizard tour at Panthers in the Evans Theatre. It wasn't The Angels as such, but was pretty much Doc & the band but also Angry Anderson & Ross Wilson. All acoustic. Would have been around 1997. At that time my legs were starting to go pretty badly, but I could still walk, upper body was still pretty much ok. I was front and centre up near the stage & Doc came out to do a set. They started doing Dogs are Talking and Doc grabbed a few bottles of water. During the first chorus he came to the edge of the stage, grabbed my head & turned me so I was facing the audience, then he climbed down on my shoulders. Then pretty much performed the rest of the song from there. As it got to the last verse starting with "Cool Down, Cool Down" He started spraying the water everywhere. All I could do was brace the old legs hard, I was torn between thinking how f**king wild is this, Doc belting out a hit while bouncing up and down on my shoulders, to please dont give out on me legs, you cant drop Doc Neeson. I'm happy to say that the legs held out & Doc survived the night. I'm very grateful that it was before he got injured in an accident & put on a heap of weight. He was a tall man, but still pretty thin at that time.
I think you are being a bit harsh on Garrett tbh.Unlike Garrett I didn’t scream at people from the backseat of a Rolls Royce for people to rise up and bring down the government when they are looking for ciggie butts on Queen St pavement.
We got the best of both batts here

His foray into politics was a disaster. I would like to think it was well intentioned, but a combination of bad advice, being used by the players that know the game and a healthy spoonfull of ego were the causes. He should have pulled the pin on it after the nuclear disarmament party stuff. Imo he was only ever a pawn in the Labour Party.
There can be no denying the beast that is Midnight Oil though. I believe the most important band in Australian music history. They are responsible for waking up a generation on some huge issues, nukes obviously, corporate greed, government self interest (a bit ironic. lol) and the plight of our indigenous population.
I consider myself moderate right politically, but I can't deny the influence Midnight Oil had on me as a teenager. Stories that needed telling to a bangin' soundtrack. As an adult I don't necessarily agree with all their ideology, but I reckon they have played a big part in me being more moderate on a lot of issues.
I hadn't listned to their music apart from the stuff that still gets radio play for years. About 6 months ago I dug out Red Sails, 10 to 1, Species Deceasies, Place witout a Postcard, Bird Noises & Head Injuries & listened to them again. It was powerful stuff, I actually got a bit emotional, nostalgia obviously played a part in the emotions, but it reminded me of what a monster they were.
Chris Bailey there original bassist left in 1982 later formed his own successful band the Saints, also played with GANGgajang passed away in 2013.Doc went a year later was very bloated at the end from the pain medications.@Kilkenny thanks for the heads up on The Angels doco. The volley Dunlop’s would not have burned still have the champagne filled from the grand final lolI was there when “scrotey and the pork chops” set the Bidwell Inn on fire.
They used @Murraymob1 sandshoes as kindling.
Hutchence wasn’t cool. Died whacking himself off while trying to strangle himself. Embarrassing.Chris Bailey there original bassist left in 1982 later formed his own successful band the Saints, also played with GANGgajang passed away in 2013.Doc went a year later was very bloated at the end from the pain medications.
I recommend if you get the chance the documentary is well worth seeing. Most of the interviews are obviously with the surviving original members Rick @nd John Brewster and Buzz Bidstrup. Plenty of nostalgic footage, great to see. I teared up a few times Being the big softie I am.
Interesting fact, I had either forgotten or wasn’t aware of, was Doc Neeson basically became the front man by default . He was the original bass player but deemed not up to scratch, rather than punt him from the band he took over as lead singer and the rest is history. Australia was blessed with great bands in the late 70s early eighties all of whom had great front men, Bon Scott, Michael Hutchence, mark Hunter (Dragon) Steve Gilpin (Mi Sex), Dave Mason (The Reels)the list is endless.
1978 when you played Glebe.T

Read my post. I didn’t say he was cool!!!! I said he was a great front man, amazing voice, amazing performer in a great band. What he did around his demise has nothing to do with it. It is sad mate, mental health issues were involved, around the whole Bob Geldorf and Paula Yates saga. You somehow promote mental health issues but sadly forget the issues around Michael Hutchence. Clearly he was in a highly depressed state around the time of his passing, it is not embarrassing it is tragic.Hutchence wasn’t cool. Died whacking himself off while trying to strangle himself. It wasn’t suicide, he was trying to whack off in some sick and twisted way with a shitload of drugs and crap in his system. So says his family.Read my post. I didn’t say he was cool!!!! Mate there's some cheap fakes on ebay, be careful. There's some reputable sellers there too (eg the Supporters Store) but the genuine ones are still not released. If they are under $100 and readily available, beware. These dodgy sellers use genuine photos in their listing, so even if they look alright, they're not.I pre-ordered the jersey and I still do not have it. Now I seen I could have got them $40 cheaper. It's pretty annoying
