And how much TV revenue have we missed out on in the delayed process? If its more than it would cost to 'prop' expansion clubs up, and it is, then its not a sound decision is it to have waited so long?
How much extra revenue has AFL generated in those 15 years compared to NRL?
then compare the cost of the two expansion clubs.
The suns and gws clubs cost around $14mill each a year more than the avg grant level. Has there revenue been more than $28mill a year than ours?

In that time
AFL revenue $5.3bill
NRL revenue $4bill

difference $1.3bill
cos of two expansion clubs in same period beyond normal costs if not expansion prop ups $420mill.

They are still nearly $900mill up!

Not to mention AFL hadn't stuffed up its heartland club footprint so it had no other real options to expand to a ninth game other than in new markets.

2022 and we still aren't expanding into new markets, we are just fixing a home market that got stuffed up 25 years ago!

The last NRL expansion side hasn't exactly set the world on fire, So rightly both TV and the comp would of been hesitant.

Again I ask what is the AFL's plan to have the new teams stand on their own?

Its long term, and may never happen. there are 100 year old Melbourne clubs that receive as much funding as Suns and GWS!
End of day their revenue increases and $1.3billion more than us in ten years is more than covering it. Why a ninth game is so urgent for us to catch up. They have earnt on avg $130mill a year more and the two expansion clubs have cost around $50-60mill a year. In short they can afford to grow into new markets and take the pain. If we can close the revenue gap maybe we can afford to do same. Imagine what the game could do with an extra $130mill a year for a decade!! Club 17 is only going to cost us around $12-15mill a year, depending what grant ends up being. We could afford to spend on new market club next and wouldn't need anything like the $25-30mill AFL spends. But as long as we keep signing lessor Tv deals we wont close that gap.

And? My Storm membership cost $30.
Do you want me to type slower?
The number of memberships does not equate to amounts in dollars.
Is it better to have 10,000 members at $29.00, or 1,000 at $440.00???
You just see the number of memberships of GS and say they make NRL clubs look embarrassing, without any knowledge of how much money is behind the numbers.
When you can get figures on how much revenue they have made out of memberships between clubs, then you can do a just comparison.

Their last 3 expansion teams can’t stand up on their own and they are thinking of adding more such clubs

it’s absolute madness

Total ratings vs Ratingsxtime

another way to look at this is that NRL gets far more in the deals per minute of broadcast enjoyment
(Quite right too)

The NRL didn't make a monumental kluster f**k of theirs , telling porkies about amounts offered.. making up stories about fake bidders
pathetic attempts at creating bidding tension &.... utterly failing
They're at rope over a tree branch stage its been that abysmal

OFC the NRL could afford more & won't jip their players as a result , under vlandys they're now better run then the aflol
while the aflol will have to get out the begging bowl for theirs , thanks for clearing that up 🤣🤣

the aflol is a financial mess atm , no one is polishing that turd .. there isn't enough brasso😎😎

All of this remains to be seen and is utter guesswork from people on this forum desperate to believe its true. Has the AFL made a rights announcement? no. Until they do, calling it a screw up is a bit rich.

and as neither of us know what that break down is, because most clubs or the codes don't produce that level of detail, all we can go on is total numbers as a measurement of interest.

AFL's helps by having games on at the same time. Simply can't match the total hours if there are 2 games going at the same time
It`s not our fault that fumbleball games go on forever, in many see it as increasingly a problem for fumble ball as the next generation comes through with their need for instant gratification and short attention spans. These people aren`t going to want to sit around for 3- 4 hours at the football. Think Test cricket versus short form versions of the game.
As Mick Malthouse ( apparently some sort of fumbleball legend ) said in the The Australian last week, the afl love to brag about the big crowds they get, what they aren`t mentioning is the worrying trend at the other end.

This coming week you have a game starting at 1.45 and one at 2.10, Then the night one game at 7.25 and one at 7.30. So you are having your audience to start with, Throw in the reasons you mentioned
