I can’t help but feel like something has to give. Fox/Kayo is growing rapidly and 9 keep sliding into irrelevance. Surely they have to be thinking they’ve either got to totally shake up how they cover the game or consider not bothering with the rights.

Monstrous increase over last year really being driven by Kayo. I’m really interested to know what the NRL is planning moving forward. The way viewers watch NRL is changing drastically and if anything has only accelerated this year.
The obvious solution would be for Ch9 to own the lot ( heaven forbid ). What they don`t get on FTA they pick up on Stan. But would they pay $400-$500m per year.
But having an average of 600k + watching every game would allow them to promote their other programmes to an awful lot of eyeballs.

Sunday on FTA always struggles.
Why if you are watching the 2pm game on Kayo would you change it over?

When you could watch the nrl on the Telstra app a lot of our actually viewers weren’t counted

vlandys realised that foxtel were making extra money from this so banned it so foxtel would pay more directly to the arlc

now with all the viewers counted properly it’s clear how far ahead nrl is to afl.

so much for afl claiming to be a true national sport

They wouldn’t get the same viewers with nines coverage. People would switch off

This years KAYO numbers has been massively boosted by the Telstra offer of $5 or $15 a month for their customers. Be interesting to see how many continue on after the 12 month runs out and it goes up to $25 a month or more if it gets raised at end of year.
Lmao maybe you should leave it for Telstra to know how to manage the pricing of their products for their best advantage

Also it’s so easy to watch on multiple devices. You can have it on your phone or whatever whilst you’re having a barbecue or whatever you want on your Sunday.

Its a shame then they offered $100mill less lol
Fans with Telstra lost their free access and NRL got less money. Sounds like a cracking deal!

It’s funny you trying to work out the foxtel deal.

like you barely got that they used to get paid by nine for streaming and also Telstra for the rights. Then they took those away from fox so it meant less value for them

lol removing Telstra from the equation is a massive boom for their PTV offering. The money they will make from KAYO and STV sign ups now Telstra isnt a free option will more than compensate them for the loss of Telstra payment. Take a look at how Kayo subscriptions have sky rocketed since the Telstra switch off!
You honestly think this was the NRL's idea and not Fox demanding it of the NRL? lol such naivety

They were getting money off Telstra they no longer do

it actually helped the fta deal be more attractive

errr? The fta deal is the same (except for $5mill a year contra lol). The Fox deal was $20mill less allegedly despite them getting a massive boost in subscriptions by the NRL canning Telstra. If Fox pick up more than 60k subscribers to KAYO from no Telstra coverage they are ahead, now tell me how the KAYO growth is looking? Now span that out over the 6 years. Hmmm.

Just checked in the 9 months from Telstra shutting down AFL and NRL streaming Kayo subscriptions went up 59% or 590k people! Over 60k new subscribers covered their loss from Telstra funding!!
Yeh Fox got a tough deal out of NRL 'choosing' to close down Telstra streaming lol
