Then we go back to teams giving away penalties to set their line. Sadly we had the solution years ago. They started cracking down and binning players but the f**kwit media led by a rosy cheek alcoholic started a crusade against it.

Just slow mo'd it. Reckon Hunt was onside and square at marker. Raiders' dummy half really fcked up. Was too busy looking sideways and wasn't even ready when the ball was played. You can see from screenshots below, he is not even leaning down when the ball was played, so by the time he picked up the ball, Hunt who was ready, tackled him. Really poor play from Raiders Fake and the commentators can go f**k themselves.

That;s the way I saw it. He was asleep. Fancy leaving it to the final play of the game and then expecting a penalty when you f**k up.

Look at Origin II last weekend - Kafusi was fairly sin-binned after multiple set restarts and penalties, and the coverage just complained about it. They complained about not knowing what set restarts are for (despite the referee calling out what it's for), and that the team didn't get a warning.

Rugby League in Australia has decided that it needs to make changes every year, instead of when changes were really needed. The worst thing is these changes have been driven by coaches and media. Some are even changes for no reason - 20/40s and 2-point field goals.

Also RIP to the offside rule - apparently if you knock on, a player in front of you can now pick it up without penalty.

Depends whether the ball is still alive for the other team.

He is standing on the outside of Tapine's right shoulder so he is already slightly not square. But that aside, the real issue is refs have penalised the marker leaving as early as Hunt did to tackle the dummy half consistently since the inception of the NRL. It's a total break from consistency of what is normally allowed.

As a neutral fan (who was hoping dragons win) it absolutely 100% should have been a penalty to raiders.

Plus the tackled player stepped to his left after playing the ball, making it look like Hunt wasn't square. Thanks for the pics.

Hunt runs from 3m away to flop on Tapine who is already tackled and in the act of trying to get up. 5m out from the try line, potential try scoring situation with the Raiders having a 6 on 2 overlap on the right.

3 seconds left in the game and the ref calls 6 again. SIX AGAIN with 3 seconds left.

Because referees have been doing that all season long. The six again was the dumbest rule to be introduced, but the PVL sycophants (particularly in the media) won't admit that fact.

I think theres a place for the 6 again & its been a good addition to the spectacle .. it has eliminated a lot of the wrestle in the ruck & sped up the game to a good level. TV ratings prove people are enjoying the contests. When we didn't have it & we had a lot of slowing down tactics some games were very stop start & disjointed .. with play not recommencing for up to 60 seconds in some instances after a referee gave a penalty that he now gives a 6 again for.

Whats happened now is coaches are challenging the rule & how to exploit it

first it was the constant conceding of 6 agains when teams were working off their line or in yardage to sap energy out of the ball carrying side ...that was fixed
Its now a penalty inside the 40m for a team with the ball ... its worked. Teams don't want to piggy back sides out

now its teams willing to lay on in tackles over & over knowing they can't get hurt via a penalty & 2 points.
Just a few extra tackles to be made & thats it or in the case of today , no extra tackles because there was only time for 6 anyway ... even tho the dragons were ahead by only 2 points they knew there was no deterrent to not lie slow every ruck down .. concede a few 6 agains ( who cares , they're pointless & of no use to the raiders there )


Klein showed the way with a penalty & sin bin in the origin for repeated infringements in the ruck

Referees need to be able to adjust & use their discretion when its required & even just knowing that they could , the Dragons would have been quicker in those last few rucks.

It was a poor look for the game
so the next adjustment to the 6 again is required

That benefits the offending team! It HAS to be a penalty and give the attacking team the chance to level the score

HAS TO BE. No ifs or buts. Mandatory. If the attacking team wish to tap and go, that's their decision. But it has to be their decision, not the officials.

It was not 6 again, it was a penalty and strong arguments to be made that it's a deliberate penalty and thus a professional foul and a sin bin.

There have been MULTIPLE times where a player has held down deliberately in the final minutes of the game and they've been penalised and sin binned

ive only seen it in the origin

at NRL level , its what we saw today
I think the refs have been castrated in this dept , they just keep blowing 6 agains & sometimes they're of benefit to the receiver, say with 5 mins to go

but not for the raiders today in that final minute , we only had time for 6
PTB's period

how was a 6 again ever going to benefit us at any point in that final minute let alone 3 seconds to go

The Dragons knew this & made the rule & the referee look like a goose

Back in round 5, Titans vs Eels, a couple of times the Titans players held down deliberately so that they could challenge a decision. The referee warned them that if they lost a challenge they would be sent to the sin bin because a deliberate hold down was a professional foul.

The referee in question? A bloke named Peter Gough.

if it comes to light that referees .. can .. penalise .. in any situation & the NRL needs to clarify this , that the referees aren't under any instructions not to .. then Gough will be dropped & hopefully for the remainder of the season. If he couldn't then its not on him
