It's insane though. His eyes were on the ball the whole time. He got penalised for running sideways? That's as bad as when Cody Walker got penalised for an escort for 'looking over his shoulder'. How can they judge intent?
The bunker and refereeing needs to be blown up, all of them sacked (or a rigorous Clockwork Orange-like reconditioning), and start again.
See, I don't see this. And if he's running sideways, why is he?
Once everyone has calmed down, they'll all come to the realisation that it was a correct penalty. The player who escorted the Cows winger had eyes for him, and cost the team the game, and I have looked at it a few times. The player who gave away that pen should be dropped for next weekend IMO. It is a very bitter pill to swallow, but at least it was a great improvement.
I see this. The Tigers player clearly (to me) looks as the kick goes up. He can see where Feldt is. He doesn't watch him as the ball goes up, but nor does he run a line that it's clear what the hell he's trying to do, unless it's impede Feldt. Yeah, Feldt goes down like a bag of shit, but what else is he going to do in that situation?
I don't know what the wording of the law is, but if running a line that isn't directly at the ball with very decent evidence that the 'escort' knew where the player running for the ball was constitutes a penalty, it's not actually as bad as anyone is making out.
If there's an issue with the timing and that they can't call captain's challenge as it is the end of the game, OK. Different issue.
