I really find games like last night hard to stomach. Once again we score the most beautiful Rugby League tries and lose to a team that just scraps, fights and scores opportunistic tries. This is not a slight on Penrith.
The Panthers dominated a single season, lost a GF, and then realised they played 'too nice', got a new wrestling coach and turned themselves into the new Storm. We have been 'almost good enough' for nigh on 5 years and have done nothing to improve our defensive resolve. Why are we not trying to find that extra 5% to get us a premiership? We are easily the best attacking side in the NRL, which is great, but why are we settling for middle-of-the-road defence? Bloody frustrating as a Souths supporter.
I think it's our structures more than our players. We can score enough points to beat anyone. 22 points should have been enough to defeat Penrith without your halves. We're just a middle-of-the-road defensive team and it's annoying. You got some pretty big decisions coming up re; cook, walker and Mitchell as well. You either got to go all in and hope they find that next 5% needed in the next couple of years or go in a completely different direction.
I think if you want to improve your defensive resolve that needs to start at the back; Mitchell isn’t fit enough to do what a Gutho/Teddy/Paps/ Edwards do for the best defensive sides.I think it's our structures more than our players. Surely though the lack of hunger showed last night by your team is a big concern though. Win and you could push for top 4, lose and there is a slight but realistic chance you miss the finals.Nothing shameful in getting that close to the reigning premiers who will be at the very least minor premiers this year. We're as close as any of the 2-8 teams to them. I still think if we get to the big dance and play them we have a strong chance simply through the fact that we'd be hungrier for a premiership than they would be.
Panthers seem to get off their line faster and more consistently than any other team so the opposition find it hard to get momentum coming out of their half, they are so fit, they must be relentless at training. It seems they are offside all the time
You lot were gifted a comp in 2014 off the back of it. So yeah, it happens.Refs will always deny it but there absolutely is an implicit bias. It's a fact they don't watch the line closely, the 10 is not strictly enforced. And subconsciously they will see a top team rush in and it will feel like they are doing it because they're good. But if a less fancied team did the same it would be a ref's instinct to assume they're cheating the 10.
omg my bad. I'm getting old and forgetful.Storm were minor premiers 2021
Surely you aren’t suggesting 2014 was implicit biasYou lot were gifted a comp in 2014 off the back of it. So yeah, it happens.
Yes and no. The NRL didn’t directly come out and declare that Souffs would be winning the premiership, although penalty souffs every time a flipper handed Burgi knocked on directly expressed it.Surely you aren’t suggesting 2014 was implicit bias
Sorry BM, after that performance you had V Eels last week, and going by form you should of wiped the floor with us, your team is as inconsistent as Parra. Your team also has ball security and self destructive tendencies.Nothing shameful in getting that close to the reigning premiers who will be at the very least minor premiers this year. Not good at all. Probably some 15 year olds trying to be tough behind a keyboard similar to what happened at Parra earlier in the year. This is really sad and disturbing to read about -
Death threats: Rabbitohs confirm shocking abuse levelled at winger

No one deserves being treated like that. NO ONE!
Thank you fangs, much appreciated.Minor premiers and thoroughly deserved.
Well done Penrith, well done.
Will review this if you guys end up in playing the Storm. They were in a brutal mood last night, so stock up on 44 gallon drums of axle grease. We are easily the best attacking side in the NRL, which is great, but why are we settling for middle-of-the-road defence?
