I enjoyed your post and agree with the overall sentiment. Some good points.

I would disagree though with your second last paragraph.

Whilst everyone knows that the bottom teams in the 8 have zero chance of making an impact, it still should be the aim. For many reasons.

Revenue
Future recruits
Membership
Brand exposure

And most importantly, Finals experience for the players.

Aiming for a top 8 spot in a 16 team competition should be the bare minimum.

I was just about to say the same thing. Unsanity even says in his fourth paragraph that losing becomes a habit.

The first step to breaking that is to get the team into the finals to prove that they can do it. Even if they have very little chance of challenging the top 4 sides, it gives them experience and should drive that belief in them that they can make the finals and realise what they need to do to be a serious threat.

If we were to buy no more players next season I reckon our best side would be.
1.Sloan
2.Feagai
3.Ramsey
4.Lomax
5.Rava
6. Mbye
7.Hunt
8.Lawrie
9.Macca
10.Burgess
11.Sua
12.Sims
13.JDB
14.Bird
15.Kerr
16.McGuire
17.Fuimaono
18.Amone
If Macca was injured McGuire could see out the game at hooker. If he was longer term injured Mbye moves to 9 and whoever our best performer in reggies is moves into the halves. Not sure how Sloan will go with a full season in first grade but he’s worth a try to start. Ramsey’s first full season will pay dividends after another off season of recovery followed by weights and training. I would be tempted to try him on the wing outside Lomax though. Rava is a beast and has a good combo but lacks the speed to take advantage of the long range opportunities Lomax regularly presents.
I'd drop Feagai, put Ramsay on the wing and put Bird in the centres. I'd then replace his bench spot with Molo.

I'm no coach but I'd have our number one signing Molo in there somewhere

Isn't the second year in our favour ?
That has been pointed out to me by "one eyed dragon" as well. And, if true, it's effectively a one year deal and I'm fine with that-but- on Zero tackle it's not being shown that way and they have the options to show player and club options for the last year of a deal.

I have been looking around for the article that I read which said Fui's second year of the contract was at the club's option, but can't find it. Maybe I was mistaken? If so, sorry guys!

Amone showed tonight why he should be 6

Trying not to get ahead of myself but him and Hunt potentially could break games open. Look how abysmal we were all night but two players in Lomax and Amone were able to rise above on a couple of occasions to make things happen. Sullivan can be in the wings keeping him accountable. Suddenly, we got things to get us excited. Please don't sign Mbye. Sign a decent attacking hooker instead, or centre.

Welp after that abysmal match - I’m looking towards 2022

This would be my team for next year

Feel Free to disagree hahah

This would be my team if all rumoured signings are completed

1. Tyrell Sloan
2. Matthew Feagai
3. Zac Lomax
4. Moses Suli
5. Mikaele Ravalawa
6. Junior Amone
7. Ben Hunt ( C )
8. Blake Lawrie
9. Andrew McCullough
10. Francis Molo
11. Jaydn Su’a
12. Tariq Sims
13. Jack De Belin
BENCH
14. Moses Mbye
15. Josh McGuire
16. George Burgess
17. Jack Bird - ( Too Play In the Forwards )

Our Depth outside of would include

BACKS
18. Cody Ramsey
19. Max Feagai

FORWARDS
20. Billy Burns
21. Tyrell Fuimaono
22. Daniel Alvaro
23. Poasa Fa’amusili
24. Josh Kerr
25. Jackson Ford

HALVES
26. Adam Clune
27.Jayden Sullivan

28.
29.
30.

Final 3 spots in my opinion should be 2 outside backs with NRL experience and a specialist backup dummy half is definitely needed

Personally aswell I do think Jackson Ford should be surplused to requirements

I disagree, I think we need Mbye as a 14. He has handled the 9 role OK. He hasn’t set the world
alight but he would bring a bit more attack than McCullough. He can cover a lot of positions from the bench. A massive issue for us this year has been as soon as we’ve had an injury or sin bin during a game, we cannot adapt and we don’t seem to have a player that can slot in multiple roles. How many times has Billy Burns had to play centre.

There has been a lot of talk about Tariq Sims moving to the front row next year. I am not sure how true this is, but Hook clearly wants Bird to see more of the ball & while moving him to lock may seem logical I’m not sure how well his body would hold up. It may mean Bird moving permanently to an edge back row. Rumours of signing Suli would suggest Bird won’t be playing there next year (or Lomax goes).

Ive been a fan of Billy Burns, I’m not saying he is an x-factor player but he does have an offload or flick pass in his skill set and he runs a good line. It may give credence to the rumour of Sims moving to the front row.

In today’s game you only need to carry one (or none) edge back rower on the bench. It may mean Bird & Su’a starting with Burns from the bench.

The resigning of Fuimaono is logical, too - he has been here for a couple of years and done OK. He gives a bit of depth and can play in the centres. He could also push for a spot on the edge.

I don’t think Burgess will get a start until at least a month or so in, he hasn’t played for a long, long time.

I also like Kerr from the bench. He is mobile and while he is error prone, he does bring a point of difference. Not too dissimilar to Vaughan in his first 18 months - every time he got the ball he looked dangerous.

I reckon Ramsey will get a crack in the centre’s if we don’t land another centre

1. Sloan
2. Feagai
3. Ramsey
4. Lomax
5. Ravalawa
6. Sullivan/Amone
7. Hunt
8. Sims
9. McCullough
10. Molo
11. Su’a
12. Bird
13. De Belin

14. Mbye
15. Kerr/McGuire
16. Lawrie/McGuire
17. Burns/McGuire

Amone showed tonight why he should be 6
Lets hope, but I feel Hook will play him off the bench with Mbye to start to start the season. Probably as the season goes on Amone will take over permanently. I would love it if Mbye played Hooker, would be nice to have a faster more playmaking hooker. The side I picked isn't exactly what I would personally pick but its a semi experienced side I feel Hook would pick.

Yeah, not bad. But if we are serious about improving we need Sullivan at 7 and Hunt at 9. If not that, we need a Hunt type hooker at 9.

Backline as per program...I would start Bird over Sims..his work rate is twice that of Sims and Sims would be more effective off the bench...Id also start Mbye at Hooker ,

Both Kerr and Burgess IMO get a guernsey, McGuire misses out as does Ramsay who I think will struggle to hold a spot unless he bulks up 8/10 kilos
