Like it but needs less Mbye.
I disagree, I think we need Mbye as a 14. He has handled the 9 role OK. He hasn’t set the world
alight but he would bring a bit more attack than McCullough. He can cover a lot of positions from the bench. A massive issue for us this year has been as soon as we’ve had an injury or sin bin during a game, we cannot adapt and we don’t seem to have a player that can slot in multiple roles. How many times has Billy Burns had to play centre.
There has been a lot of talk about Tariq Sims moving to the front row next year. I am not sure how true this is, but Hook clearly wants Bird to see more of the ball & while moving him to lock may seem logical I’m not sure how well his body would hold up. It may mean Bird moving permanently to an edge back row. Rumours of signing Suli would suggest Bird won’t be playing there next year (or Lomax goes).
Ive been a fan of Billy Burns, I’m not saying he is an x-factor player but he does have an offload or flick pass in his skill set and he runs a good line. It may give credence to the rumour of Sims moving to the front row.
In today’s game you only need to carry one (or none) edge back rower on the bench. It may mean Bird & Su’a starting with Burns from the bench.
The resigning of Fuimaono is logical, too - he has been here for a couple of years and done OK. He gives a bit of depth and can play in the centres. He could also push for a spot on the edge.
I don’t think Burgess will get a start until at least a month or so in, he hasn’t played for a long, long time.
I also like Kerr from the bench. He is mobile and while he is error prone, he does bring a point of difference. Not too dissimilar to Vaughan in his first 18 months - every time he got the ball he looked dangerous.
I reckon Ramsey will get a crack in the centre’s if we don’t land another centre
